Session 8 - Nuisances, Miracles, and Family Reunions

General Summary

21 Planting, 498TA

Janora, (Sharwyn)
As the black of night softened into the pre-dawn grey, Janora woke the girl and they began walking towards Oakhurst. Passing the crossroads as the sun truly rose, Sharwyn still seemed dazed, but less weepy today. A few hours into the morning's journey, the dogstaff started barking. The pair stopped immediately and Janora started looking around for the cause. After a few tossed pinecones, they started to get annoyed. After some threats and taunting, they discovered that it was the quasit, now released and threatening to follow the party.

When it proved to be mostly non-hostile Janora chose to ignore it and continue on their way. The rest of the trip passed in peace and they arrived to find the village gates closed, Knocking, they were given admittance by a young guard who looked shocked when he saw Sharwyn. He immediately took you to Eldath’s Shrine where Dem Cackle was able to cast Greater Restoration on the girl, returning her to herself.

Now crying again, this time in joy, Sharwyn tried to tell Janora about some of the things she’d seen. Janora suggested that the girl go get some sleep and they would all talk once the others were back. Enlisting the guard, Janora told him to take Sharwyn to her grandmother. The guard, who happened to be a cousin, was only to glad to do so.

That final duty finished, Janora headed to the Ol’ Boar Inn to get a couple of hours sleep in a real bed before the others got back.

Denye, Ell, Jilken, (Erky)
Waking at their campsite several marks later, the rest of the party began to pack up. While they were doing so, Denye related the details of a dream that she had had just before waking. Unable to make heads or tails out of it, the party decided that the best plan was still to head to Oakhurst and meet up with Janora.

The day’s travel was quiet and the party soon arrived at Oakhurst a mark or two before sunset. As had Janora, they found the gates to the village closed and guarded. Once allowed inside, they made for the Inn to see if Janora had arrived, while Erky headed over to find the gnome priestess.

The party found Janora at a table, fresh from their nap, and looking for dinner. Garon’s boy came by and soon drinks and food were ordered. Janora quickly related their tale and the miraculous cure for young Sharwyn, after which Denye, Ell, and Jilken shared their fun with the troll priest.

Deciding that the best course of action was to let the mayor know that the mission was completed...as well as the news of the twig blights and the Gulthias Tree. Unsure if it would be better to do so tonight or in the morning. Ell went to ask Garon, the barkeeper.

Garon’s opinion was that tonight would be better, as Mayor Vurnor would be drunk, which is a much better state for the man than hungover. Taking the bartender’s advice the party headed over to the Village Hall to speak with Mayor Leng. Finding the large man sitting at his desk with a mostly empty bottle of wine, the party spent the next hour intensely questioning him. Most of his answers were blubrry nonsense and drunken confusion.

The one thing that did seem to sink home was hearing about the seeds and the blights that had sprouted. Hear that, he seemed genuinely appalled that the town was responsible for this infestation. It did not last long, and the party left him writing a strongly worded letter to the Watcher of Wexwood.

The group discussed going to speak with Sharwyn, but decided that that could wait until morning. Returning to the inn, the party got rooms and had a relaxing night of drink, songs, and rumors before seeking their beds.

Gathering in the common room for breakfast the next morning, the group decided that the first stop of the morning would be to see Kerowyn and check on Sharwyn. The older woman was overjoyed that the party had returned her granddaughter and gave all four adventurers huge hugs. Denye returned Talgen’s signet ring, it brought a tear to Kerowyn’s eye but she thanked the small corva. After pulling out several small sacks of gold and pressing them on the party, Kerowyn called Sharwyn downstairs.

The young girl was looking considerably healthier….though only a little less weary and jumpy. Sharwyn related how she could remember bits and pieces from being part of the tree. Most of it was thirst and madness, but she was able to tell the party that there were two more Gulthias Trees somewhere in Ellebore. Unfortunately, the best directions she could give them was south and far to the northeast.

Convinced that she had told them all she knew, the party said goodbye to both Sharwyn and Kerowyn and made their way back to the main square where they discussed what to do next.
