Chamgarten

Chamgarten is the name of the district owned by the Farmer's Guild of Tregaron City; it is also easily the largest district, located around the steep walls of the city and nestled along the coastal mountains.

Demographics

Most of Chamgarten is expressily human. While Elves or Fianni may find the wide open space and rural area a welcome surprise compared to the hustle and bustle of the city that lies beyond the walls, the threat of discrimination looms heavy over those races as the inhabitants often view associate them as going hand in hand-- and to Chamgardeners, Elves are frequently associated to banditry due to the mercenary bands that were notorious across northern Vilstrung.   Talpa are known to be a very welcome people across Chamgarten due to their ingenuity and ability to bore holes -- allowing for efficient workers capable of both tilling the soil and creating complex irrigation systems with their sharp claws.

Government

Chamgarten is primarily a democratic district; the Farmer's Guild swaps out an official to serve as their spokesperson every two years, called the Warden. This spokesperson serves as the effective leader of the Guild and is in charge of drafting laws; however, licensed guildmembers are capable of voting against the interest of the Warden. Only licensed members of the guild may vote properly; those that live in Chamgarten but aren't licensed guildmembers only count as half a vote during elections or when determining the laws that are set by the Warden.

Farmwatch

Farmwatch is an important part of the community within Chamgarten; members of the Farmer's Guild swear an oath to 'take up the watch' should they ever be called to action. This creates a dangerous militia force that rises to action during very specific times. Farmwatch is notorious for their brutal and unorthodox methods in upholding the law; in essence, it is a mob that is roused to carry out the interest of the guild.   Farmwatch is known for employing fear tactics through both acts of brutality and general presentation. Most famously, a Farmwatchman always wears a tattered sheet, preferably white, which is never washed, so's to soak in the stink of blood, sweat, and manure. The lack of cleanliness on a bloodstained sheet, paired with their ominous scythes and sickles as weapons, is meant to mimic wrathful spirits enacting the will of the Farmer's guild. It's messy and unsanitary work; being called to serve as a Watchman is often seen as a gruelling experience due to the unsightly rotten rags alone.   And yet, Farmwatch is trained to turn their harvesting tools into lethal weapons so's to create a dangerous mob upon hearing the Church's wailing bell.

Land Ownership

Chamgarten is a particular popular district due to the sights that come with its mountainside overlooks and the nearby coasts; however, owning land in Chamgarten is exceptionally expensive towards outsiders that wish to merely own land without a membership. Most of the housing and area is dedicated towards those that are interested in joining the guild, thus making it almost mandatory to become a farmer should you show interest in living there.

Farmer's Fee

Becoming a Farmer in Chamgarten grants a very low cost of living in exchange for a very simple price; one must contribute a certain amount of product to the guild. Farmers owning land on Chamgarten are expected to yield a bushel (roughly 60 pounds) of harvested crops for every acre owned.   Livestock farmers instead tribute an amount of product depending on the livestock, as negotiated by the Farmer's Guild; this typically varies, but is often done based upon the amount of livestock the farmer owns. For example; a Cattle Farmer may be expected to yield at least five gallons of milk a month for every cow they own.

Warden's Cabinet

Every two years, the elected Warden is expected to live within Banecroft Manor; a prestigious estate that overlooks several acres of land that traditionally serves as a large apple orchard. Banecroft Manor was once owned by the very first Warden of the Farmer's Guild; Edwyn Banecroft, who is mostly known for the creation of Farmwatch.   Banecroft manor is a wood and stone building that is known for carrying a rustic design; ivy clings close to its walls and snakes along their surface, adding a rustic charm to the three story estate. The Warden elects five officials (excluding their family) to live with them in Banecroft Manor, where they aid in enforcing and drafting laws across Chamgarten.

Natural Resources

Wheat, Barley, and Oats are among the most common crops found within Tregaron, but root vegetables, such as potatoes, carrots and turnips, also remain very popular for the acres of land that remains closer to the mountain.
