Curtis is a thug first, and first mate of the Marrian second. The question most asked in whispered voices is why Everitt keeps a traitorous dog so close; the truth being that Curtis is excellent at what he does. He is an excellent sailor and for some reason, able to motivate the crew without being overly hostile.
