Skogen

"This is my home, Skogen. It's nice - safe even. We had an owlbear attack last week, but that's what the palisade is for, right?" ~ Pol Hendricks, Skogen Scout

Demographics

Skogen has a very diverse population that is mostly built from stranded travelers and traders who decide to settle down. Human's and wood elves make up the majority, but the odd gnome, moon elf, beast-folk, or furblog have been known to live here freely.

Government

The settlement gathers once a year to elect a chief. The chief posses a significant amount of power and sway in the village, settling all disputes and ensuring people either pay a small share of what they earn, or physically contribute to the upkeep and protection of the village. Other roles are merely taken by those individuals who are recognized as possessing skill or success in similar occupations, and who receive the chiefs blessing. These roles include - Sheildsman (Bodyguard to the chief, and commander of the guard), Steward (oversees trade, village finances, and stores), and Huntsman (Responsible for village hunts, maintaining relations with local Druids and wood elves, and monitoring the area for dangerous beasts/monsters).

Defences

The village is surrounded by a wooden palisade that has one gate. The Chieftain's house doubles as a sturdy keep that could hold up to 60 people in case of attack.

Industry & Trade

Skogen is largely self-sufficient, but is largely dependant on the gold passing travelers and merchants spend while within Skogen's walls. As Edresh's northern-most walled settlement, they receive a fair amount of traffic from those traveling between Grand Arches and Ardwyn or Dexraven. There is a nearby salt mine that not only attracts all manner of game for the hunters, but is a particularly lucrative enterprise that the villagers take advantage of whenever monster populations are low.

Infrastructure

Chieftains House, Guard House, The Silvered Key Inn, Morkuff's General Goods, The Shanties (communal apartments for those living in the Skogen compound), The Shack (small warehouse that holds a small market place for passing merchants to store and sell their wares), Leather Smith/Tanner/Smithy/Ferrier.

Assets

Simple weapons, ammunition, general goods (food, clothing), stores (Furs, Lumber, Salt, Seed Potatoes, Fruit Tree seeds, Local Produce), Random Goods provided by resting merchants.

History

The village of Skogen was founded by a young Murphy Mulgrennen, after his southbound caravan was attacked by monsters. After organizing a defense, the travelers were stranded in the wilderness, and had lost all transportation. After displaying considerable prowess and character Murphy was elected as a group leader, and it was he who organized the construction of a defensive position to hold against the bests. Over time the besieged travelers began pushing out and adopting the surrounding wilderness as home. As time went by, other travelers began to settle behind the stout wooden palisade, and 30 years later, the village is bustling with activity and prosperity.

Architecture

The village is largely made of wood from the surrounding forest, though the forge and foundation of the Chieftains House are made of cemented stone. The arcetature is very simple and rustic, although a few talented hands have taken to begin carving elaborate wooden designs on the Chieftains house and surrounding buildings.

Geography

The Village is located deep in the northern forest of Edresh, right off of a established trade route, and about 20 min walk from an offshoot stream from the Lunlac River. The forest is vibrant, and not far from the Elder Woods that the Wood Elves call home.

Natural Resources

Timber, Wild Game, Salt, Iron, Wild Fruits and Vegetables.
