Appointment of the Lord Reaper

As the Lord Reaper is the personal bodyguard of and head of the guards of the Emperor, their appointment is incredibly important. It is an incredibly important role and as such it is treated with the utmost importance.

History

At the founding of the Empire of Alatheia it was determined that Rai Reirha, the Emperor, would need guards and in particular at least two bodyguards. One would be chosen to be the leader of the entire unit dedicated to his safety. The name of the rank itself was chosen as a way to repurpose a title that had once inspired nothing but fear, what the Dragons had once called the Reaper was now Lord/Lady Reaper. Where once the title was that of one who would round up people to feed to the queen it now became simply a protector of the emperor.

Execution

Once the decision has been made on who will be the next Lord/Lady Reaper the ceremony is scheduled to have them sworn in and take their title officially. This is done before a full court in the throne room and includes the gifting of a unique weapon made for recipient of the title.

Components and tools

A custom made weapon, the charter of the empire, and a full court are what are needed for the ceremony to take place.

Participants

The Court as witnesses, the Emperor as it is too him fealty is sworn, and the recipient of the title. There is also an option for the pious to have their patron god invoked before the ceremony and for a member of the chosen clergy to lead a blessing.

Observance

This ceremony can take place at any given time but usually falls on the aniversary of the War of the Dragons the year of the resignation or death of the previous Lord Reaper.
