Genasi
Newborn elements bound and shaped by genies, genasi are masters of their respective elements. A genasi gains great magical abilities from their genie masters, in addition to taking on the genie's prideful nature. Treated right, a genasi cares deeply for their genie master. Treated poorly, genasi may either regress into a shadow of themselves, a mere puppet for their master, or they will try to rise up against the genie, either killing them or being killed in the process.
When the Vydrithöne overlapped with the Leifethöne, some of the genasi ventured into the Balethöne to explore the new plane. While some of these few returned to the Vydrithöne, a number of them took up residence in the Balethöne. Over the years, the mixed magic of the Balethöne changed the bodies of the genasi, making them more humanoid, and allowing their magic to expand beyond that of their elemental parent.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Humanoid in shape, Genasi stand on two legs and have two arms. Those that reside in the Vydrithöne more strongly resemble their elemental parent, while those that live in the Balethöne have a more refined appearance. They are incredibly sturdy creatures, able to withstand great injuries and harsh falls or blows.
Genetics and Reproduction
While the original genasi in the Vydrithöne are capable of reproduction, it was an extremely rare occasion, as the genies preferred "first generation" genasi. In the Balethöne however, this is untrue. Genasi can only mate with those of the same element - a child will not be conceived otherwise. After carrying her young for about 6 months, a female genasi will give birth to twins.
Growth Rate & Stages
Genasi are born with the capabilities of a typical human newborn. However, their bodies quickly adapt to the world around them, giving them the physical prowess of a toddler within a month, and full physical maturity by 2 cycles old. Their minds progress quickly at the beginning of their growth, reaching teenage maturity in those same 2 cycles. However, their minds slow their maturity at this point, taking an additional 4 cycles to reach full maturity. This is thought to allow their brains to adapt to the constant pull of their respective element, enabling the perception of the world around them through this connection.
Ecology and Habitats
Genasi can be found in any region of land, although most will tend to live near places that best suit their respective elemental origins.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Genasi require food on a daily basis, much the way humans do.
Biological Cycle
A genasi on their own is generally unchanging from cycle to cycle. However, they will tend to reflect the well being of their element around them to a degree. A water genasi living near a polluted stream or river may tend towards sickness or poor health for example.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Social structure is largely based on elemental ability. The more in tune a genasi is with their element, the better standing they will have amongst their peers. Not to say that a genasi without ability cannot somehow prove themselves in other ways, but it is rare and unlikely to occur.
Facial characteristics
While genasi have human-like facial features, their features tend to be more broad and stocky. Many will have odd markings, although there is a large variance of exact structure due to the difference in elemental presentation within each genasi.
Average Intelligence
Genasi rarely lack confidence, seeing themselves
as equal to almost any challenge in their path. This
certainty might manifest as graceful self-assurance
in one genasi and as arrogance in another. Such self-
confidence can sometimes blind genasi to risk, and their
great plans often get them and others into trouble.
Too much failure can chip away at even a genasi’s
sense of self, so they constantly push themselves to
improve, honing their talents and perfecting their craft.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Genasi have a certain sense of the world around them pertaining to the element they originate from. While they are no masters of their element, they are somewhat synced with it, gaining a general feeling from it.
