Elementals

Written by MochaPower19

Have you ever felt the ground shake and shift beneath your feet? Or seen oceans rise to crash down upon the mountains? Have you heard the screaming winds, racing against the world? Lava boils and ice shatters, the deep seas lay quietly, and storms pass by with nary a care. You may think I describe a place of chaos, but it is Elemental paradise that I speak of. Within the Vyrdithöne roam these great beings of power, who make play things of the very elements of nature. They are as temperamental as Vydra herself, but as steady and constant as the elements they control. You may be tempted to sit and watch their majesty, but be wary to never anger one, for it will surely be you undoing.

  • Basic Information

    Anatomy

Elementals come in all sorts of sizes and shapes, and they can morph their bodies to better match their circumstances. However, most elementals do have a default humanoid shape, which is made almost entirely of their respective element. The actual shape of this body depends on the elemental, but most have at least four arms and two legs.

    Genetics and Reproduction

Elementals use a form of fission reproduction. As an elemental grows older, their body continuously grows. The larger their body, the bigger the territory the are able to control. If the elemental ever gets to a point where their territory can no longer support them, or if they cannot expand their territory any further, they will undergo a splitting process, in which their body looses half of it mass to create a new elemental. This elemental has many of the same memories as their predecessor, but they recognize those memories as not their own. This allows elementals to have a sort of generational memory and knowledge base. The newly formed elemental will leave the territory of the original elemental, seeking out its own place in the world. If they are unable to find a territory to sustain themselves, their bodies will eventually grow smaller and smaller until they vanish from the world.

    Ecology and Habitats

Each elemental has its own territory that it does not share with other elementals of its same type. This territory is used to sustain itself; the elemental garners ambient energy and sustenance from their territory. Territories are distinguished as places where the type of element the elemental controls is in abundance, and the size of the territory depends on the size and/or age of the elemental. The larger the territory, the larger the elemental is able to grow, and the more powerful it becomes. Nearly all places in the Vydrithöne have elementals living in/near them, usually with a few different elementals of different types living near each other with overlapping territories.   While all elementals require this territory to live, elementals themselves are not naturally inclined to be overly aggressive to each other. Elementals of differing types rarely if ever get into fights over territory, and elementals of the same type will only get into fights if one elemental is trying to take territory from another elemental. This means that elementals can interact with each other and wander the plane without fear of being attacked for entering another's territory, although they may be approached out of curiosity.   The few places within the Vydrithöne that do not have an elemental living in the area are congested and uncontrolled. While this is not immediately obvious to mortals, since there are no plants or typical wildlife to indicate the well being of the area, the Inert Nature Magic in the area is sluggish and slow moving, causing the uncontrolled element to grow stagnant and "hollow". These places are far and few in between though, as the elementals consider it their job to maintain the health and well being of the Vydrithöne and will strive to heal these places of congestion.

    Additional Information

    Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Elementals have a range of different sensory perception skills, depending upon their respective elements. Regardless of this, while in the Vydrithöne each elemental can sense their elemental within 1000 feet of themselves, or within 500 feet of themselves on other planes of existence. This includes sensing its location, movement, and general status of being.
