The Sects

Origins of the Witchblood

While the Sects themselves are not officially as ancient as some of the other organized groups amongst the species, their later origin does not make them lesser. Witches merely existed in smaller groups until they began coming together in larger, familial groups as bloodlines began to spread. They have gone into hiding several times over the years during different crusades against those using magic - which a few real witches did get caught up in alongside innocent Mortals - but having settled into hiding just beneath the surface in modern times.

MUFHET

In 1236 AD, the founder of the Sect, Symon Mufhet aided Gwilim Bongam in hunting down the vampire that had taken his daughter. Nearly thirty years later, he had contacted many of the others who either shared his last name or the powers of their bloodline. They met for many days before coming to an agreement that the long centuries of family, coven, and helping the hunters only sometimes should come to an end. Thus the first Sect was formed and the thriving Bongam Clan was the first to profit from a more direct connection to those with magic. Most modern witches of the Sect go by the surname Moffat.

WARD

Almost two hundred years after Mufhet brought his Sect together, Lynda Ward was doing the same just before her death at the hands of a vampire later identified as one of the Elders, Djal. While her husband, Daniel Wolfe, brought together what would become the Clan, their son Alexander rose up as her successor and took on the Ward name. Marriage between Clan and Sect has become something of a tradition now and while there are a few Wards born hunters and Wolfes born witches, many more are born with the abilities of both in some fashion.

OTTOLINI

Only six or so decades after the Wards, a brother and sister brought the Ottolini Sect together. After seeing terrible devastation wrecked by a group of vampires while aiding a trio of Kosho hunters, Bortolo and Marcella made the decision to bring their close and extended family together to better aid their longtime ally. Most modern witches of the Sect go by the surname Otto.

HANCOCK

A year after Ottolini, cousins Teige and Meave Hancóc brought their respective families together to form the beginning of the Hancock Sect. As the Sect grew, it was determined that they needed a place designated as their headquarters and Connor Hancóc offered his family's home at Dún Másc, their occupation and rebuilding of the old site hidden magically since the 1330s. Several other seemingly ruined sites around Ireland were also later occupied by members of the Sect. In 1646 the Sect experienced a split due to unknown internal conflicts and this has since caused an Irish and Scottish side, each with their own leadership. The Scottish side also includes a small number of Welsh Hancocks.

SCHERER

Twins Cunz and Balthasar Scherer had no intentions for forming their Sect in the almost one hundred and fifty years after the Hancocks, but Balthasar's wife changed all that. When Katharina entered the family and learned of their magic as well as the long Scherer allegiance to the Neruĝal and Alkina Clans, she deemed it necessary. Convincing her husband and brother-in-law, the three oversaw the rather rapid construction of a Sect that was all too willing to help it's allies in a greater fashion.

OLLYETT

Not quite a century after Scherer, Geoffrey Ollyett officially called for the creation of a Sect to join those already formed. Part of his push to bring the Sect together was to give greater aid to the Coranus Clan, who were at their height during this time. Only a few years after his formation of the Sect, however, the Clan began it's decline and in the last twenty years before their destruction then Sect leader, Nathaniel Ollyett ordered a disconnect from all members of the Clan. Since the fall of the Coranus, the Sect has aided all of the other Clans at some point but they remain relatively aloof.

CORNWALL

It is only within the last thirty years that the Cornwall Sect has made an official appearance but they have considered themselves a Sect for quite some time. Despite Susan Cornwall's best efforts in officially placing a founding date, there are many who do not regard them as an official Sect. Their ally, the Holt Clan, are the only full group to entirely accept them as a true Sect.
