Meridian

Government: Oligarchy. The Logicmasters Council of Mentats delegates authority, and appoints offices with the power to govern or appoint further stations of authority.   Cultures: Meridan   Official Religion: None   Population: 210,000   History: After the Great Purge of the 3rd Epoch, the Logicmasters all agreed that they needed a home. Seeing the damage that the chaotic, emotionally driven Sorcerers had done to the world, it was only logical that the Logicmasters should remain neutral and separated from world politics. An island central to the other landmasses of the world was selected by Oremar, and he declared that island to be Meridian, a place of center, a point of reference that the world could follow. It would be the homeland of the Logicmasters. He declared that the founding of Meridian would be the first year of a new Epoch, an Epoch free of the reign of Sorcerers, thus beginning the 4th Epoch with the founding of the nation.   After witnessing the power of the Logicmasters in the wake of the Great Purge, no country dared contested them, and the locals upon the island welcomed their wisdom and guidance, knowing they would bring wealth to the lands they settled. Any who did not wish to be ruled by the Logicmasters were given ample coin to travel and settle other lands.   Since then, the philosophy of logic and reason has pervaded the nation. Acting sensibly and logically is valued above all else, emotions are to be suppressed, truth found at all costs. The Logicmasters are good providers, and the Meridan people are definitely the most intelligent in the world on average. More Logicmasters are recruited from within Meridian than from anywhere else in the world.   Meridian has stayed true to its mission, remaining effectively neutral in world politics (except, as some would argue, in the matter of the secession of Epsia from the Arbethian Kingdom). Some few arrogant Khans have made attempts at invasion, and served as excellent reminders to the world of what the Logicmasters are capable of.
