The Worship of Goratha
Goratha is the deity of smiths, metal and weaponry. She governs the cleric domains of Forge and War.
History
Goratha has been worshipped by the humans of Nerevarn since before records began, but various sections of her mythology suggest she may have originally been a monotheistic dwarven god, who has been adopted into the wider Nerevarnese pantheon over the ages.
Execution
Goratha does not particularly value prayer or contemplation among her followers, except perhaps for spontaneous prayers for more strength, endurance or valour made in the heat of a fierce fight. Even in temples, worshippers usually seek her blessing upon their weapons at the altars rather than offering up prayers or praise. The main devotional acts which please Goratha are the act of creation at a forge, turning shapeless, formless metal into works of art or usefulness, and the act of combat, where warrior faces warrior in a test of strength, skill and valour. Most temples to her have at least a sparring ground for devotees, and the famous Spire of Verdorn is simply one large, sacred, fighting pit where many warriors vie to become her champion.
