The Nomad Plains

The Nomad Plains is the name commonly given to the vast grasslands covering large swaths of western Sarayne, on which farming is impractical due to the low annual rainfall.

Geography

The Nomad Plains are a sparsely populated, vast expanse of primarily low lying flat ground.  Owing to low annual rainfall the area is not considered suitable for farming, and is inhabited almost exclusively by the nomadic peoples who have lived by hunting, herding and gathering there for millennia.  Without the help of these hardy and experienced native people it is highly unadvised to attempt travel beyond the edges of the plains, owing to the scarcity of surface drinking water and the often scorching temperatures.
The full extent of the plains is not known to Nerevarnese scholarship at this time.  The nomads speak of cities at the other side, but none actually claim to have been there themselves, merely that their oral histories (in which they have absolute belief) speak of people who have.  Within the bounds of current knowledge, the plains are bounded by ocean on the far west - the same ocean that meets the west coast of Nerevarn - and the northern mountains of Raad on the east.  What the extent of the plains is if one travels north, or what might be on the other side, is speculation only.
