Elúned the Wise (el-oo-ned cat-treen)

Queen Elúned Catrín Gilaxsten- Bluewood

Queen of Evoria, wife of Sylvain. Elúned went from a timid farm girl into a stately and just queen. She preferred to remain unadorned with crown or jewelry.

Early Life

Born outside a small village of Hatt'it in the Blesséd Fields of Elysia, Elúned learned the ways of her farming family. She thanks Chauntea every day for their life and for her family's resilience to sickness. She was first to rise to pray and first to give thanks during meals. Her parents mused and teased her about how solemnly she went about her duties. With fastidious concern she worked with a detailed eye. She pored over religious and agricultural teachings, gaining more understanding to perform her tasks competently.

Young Adulthood

Elúned continued her practices and "rituals" as she called them into her young adulthood. They became so habitual a sudden change in that habit would irk her. By this time, however, she had learned how to control her outbursts to a steam-simmer. Yes, she had bouts of anger, but she always came back to apologize, even if the apologies were defenses. In her mid twenties she found a wrecked carriage while fetching supplies from a nearby market. In the carriage were an unconscious noble couple. She rescued them and prayed for their health and treated their wounds. She Days after seeing them on their way she received a letter for summons to Hlee. The letter stated she was to come and bring her entire family for she was to be honored. She did not wish it so, but relented to her beseeching parents. Not wishing to prove a further burden by leaving, she went to Hlee alone.

Stay in Hlee

The vast city baffled the poor farmgirl who had no concept of stone-paved streets or buildings higher than a barn, or people who had soft hands. She followed a helpful guard, a member of the Lombarch Guard. He took Elúned to a ivy-grown great house, a vast complex of buildings and grounds. Here she met the noble Lord Custlan and Lady Anwen Gilaxsten. They welcomed her in and bestowed gifts upon her. Sheepishly she accepted, unsure of what to do with the magical items. Her thoughts wandered back to home and the farm and her family. Just then a man entered who caught her eye. He was tall and strong and had keen, kind eyes. They smiled at her before his lips curled jovially. This was Sylvain.

Back at home

A plush carriage carried her back to her home. She showed her family her new things and immediately went into how useful these certain items could be for the farm. She had figured out several uses for the rod of watering, naturally, and thought the sunlight medallio"n could help certain crops that didn't receive enough light in the shadow of a hill perhaps. Impressed and proud, her parents congratulated her and announced she was indeed a woman of virtue.

Adulthood

Years passed while she worked on the farm. Every so often her mind wandered back to Sylvain and his smiling eyes. Always strong-willed she simply compartmentalize him into a crate and pushed the crate into the corner behind other boxes where he could not break free. Fate, however, had other plans. At the start of her thirtieth year a procession of cavaliers with long banners, flapping in the wind stopped outside her house. At first alarmed, all came out to see the commotion. A tall, armored knight stepped down, plume flittering in the breeze. He removed his helmet to reveal his identity once he saw Elúned. He approached and asked for her hand in marriage. She flatly refused and returned inside.   The account of Elúned and Sylvain's dance has already been written and turned into a play, so it will not be recounted here. Elúned saw her need for her country in Hlee and felt in her heart the correct and just thing was to unite the bickering warlords and chieftains of Evoria. It was his arguments, not his romance, that won her over, or so she told herself. She grew accustomed to her new life, not as his wife, but his equal. He came to her with ideas and worries. Her exacting country mind sifted through the policies and worries of high court dramatics, cutting straight to the heart of the matter. Sylvain found this invaluable.

War for Unification

During the war for a united Evoria, she accompanied Sylvain on his campaigns. He consulted her every day and filled her in with his plans and motives. She would respond with her thoughts. At first she rebuked him for not following her advice until he told her that he must consider all advice, not just hers. Pensive for a moment, she acquiesced. Still, he never dismissed her input, only thoughtfully stroked his clean-shaven face in thought by firelight. She grew to love him during these campaigns.

Post-war Rule

After the unification and the Champions were honored and venerated, she settled into the role of queen. Sylvain had never asked, but she knew she was the best for the position and knew Sylvain thought so as well. Often after she visited her home to care for her parents and remaining sibling. At this time they were old, so she brought them to Hlee to finish their days. Elúned continued her prayers to Chauntea and was blessed with a child whom they named Sumpter Sylvain Gilaxsten, after the Evorian fashion.

Elder Years

The autumn years of her life Elúned grew gentler, finally letting go of the aura of professionalism — "and arrogance," Sylvain teased. Her raven hair silvered beautifully. Statues were erected in her honor, and these she lambasted to Sylvain, though he never stopped them. Elúned continued to let Sylvain know her thoughts on matters, though she was less fiery, but she would not let Sylvain be careless, her words could still scold though they weren't fiery. She lived to be 110, but did not outlive her husband. Her winter years were spent in the garden she commissioned to resemble a simple farmers garden of wildflowers and grass and wheat. It was a simple, small garden, but one she loved dearly. She went peacefully in her sleep, a beloved dear of the entire country and all mourned at her passing, for never had there even been such a lady nor, they said, would there ever be again.
