Achlýs

Neutral Evil, Uthilithian conception of darkness, suffering, and death.   After the Genesis of the rulers of the pantheon – Lation and Briris – came the creation of two deities considered primordial within the scheme of Uthilith. Enaldir and Achlýs were born as a sort of mirror image to one another; Enaldir believed Achlýs’ domain to be one shrouded in ambiguity and lies, and he thus cast her away from the pantheon. Since Enaldir’s worship is so highly institutionalized in Tempora, Achlýs has been demonized and retconned from allowable worship. Now, she resides almost exclusively in the Palace of the Great Mist within the 433rd layer of the Abyss, only shifting between planes upon incidences of mass slaughter to assist the ferrywoman Vanth.   Her sole intact temple on the Temporan continent is buried deep beneath the Whisperloch, built by Her church who once inhabited the Great Plateau centuries prior. In Iacchus Argentum, her demigod child Saklas constructed the Citadel of Woe in her honor. She has no dedicated places of worship in Chaelwyth or Thur Nirkhum.

Description:

Achlýs, oft described as the "Abyssal Empress" (and those holding domain over the vast majority of demons within the multiverse), is a goddess primarily worshipped by those who've been tempted down a dark path in some fashion. Of mortals, she is the foremost deity of the Moon Elf - a rare ethnicity of elves on the whole (and also depicts a foil to Lation, who holds dominion over the Sun Elves). She rarely partakes in the affairs of mortals and thus lacks many clerics or warlocks (paladins need only to swear an oath to manifest power). Thus, she has a mere handpicked few who've been whispered to in one of her two major places of worship, but on the whole lacks the institutionalized following that makes deities like Enaldir so powerful. When she does select mortals for her divine gift, they become feared by the world for good reason - major individuals include Saklas, Belladonna Maleficum, and Scheherazade Dunyazera.   Achlýs' appearance as seen by mortals has been described as "exceptionally tall and muscular" and "vaguely Elvish, but her features are shrouded in a faint mist", clad in a sleeveless black gown. One particularly tactless individual said "she could step on me and I'd thank her" - no one has seen him since that statement. A true depiction of her immortal form is unknowable, as she's the conception of one of life's greatest mysteries - death. Should her essence coalesce entirely into one location, it could cause damage beyond comprehension to the multiverse.

Realm:

Achlýs resides in the Palace of the Great Mist on the 433rd layer of the Abyss - a realm that subverts the identity of the Abyss as one of chaos. Rather, it's a plane of silence eternal. Only those granted express permission from the goddess herself are permitted to speak, lest they find their souls in a world of agony.

Relationships:

Achlýs has strained relationships with every deity (Dydos and Polaris excluded), as her perception of death and judgement was warped upon her conception. Others (particularly Enaldir) consider her to be far too violent in her cosmological methods to be a true deity within the pantheon, but she still remains in the major twelve nonetheless. The worship of various cults in Uthilith are what sustain her lifeblood - if they were to be purged, then her essence would die and a new spirit of death would arise in her place.
