Wren Maw

Oh come on, are you scared of a little adventure? The Maw is turning over in his grave"

A legendary adventurer and cartographer, Wren Maw is credited with the discovery & mapping of The Ends, an archipelago in the center of the known realm. Tales of his daring voyages are common throughout The Ends, but over hundreds of years of retelling, vary wildly from region to region.

The true Wren Maw was a Dragonborn. Born to a nearly-noble family, Wren sought glory. He sailed from the edges of Uskod south in search of rumored sunken ships that were filled with gold. Instead, he found Sparrow's End, a group of islands completely uninhabited by civilized creatures. A paradise with diverse animals and unique ecosystems. Convinced he had struck gold with this unclaimed land, he sailed north again to rally a band of mercenaries and adventurers to build a settlement in Sparrow's End.

Setbacks, a stint in prison, and a civil war delayed his return to The Ends, but when he sailed the exact same route he'd previously taken, he arrived on the northern coast of Whistler's End. He knew he had reached an entirely different set of islands by the ecosystem, it was too dissimilar to be the same set of islands. From this, he concluded that the islands were moving.

He then spent years sailing from End to End, slowly understanding the orientation of the islands and developing theories on how they were created - theories that were not confirmed until long after his death

Near the end of his life, Wren Maw compiled his work into The Maw's Atlas - a compendium of his maps, charts, and notes on The Ends. He became obsessed with completing it, and abandoned his wife and young children to sail for The Ends once more. He was last seen in BF, and local legends whisper that his final journey was one into the whirlpool itself.

Wren Maw is hailed as a patron saint of The Ends, and is lightly worshipped throughout the populated areas of the islands. Statues in major port cities can be found depicting Wren Maw, and there are colloquialisms referencing his feats & bravery that are mostly utilized in The Ends, or in major cities on the continents by well-traveled merchants.

By the end of his life, Wren Maw spoke the common languages of every continent on a conversational level.

Wren Maw sailed south after Eldridge's death to carry on mapping The Ends, and discovered the largest and most hospitable landmass he'd seen yet in his 20 years of adventuring. Now understanding more about the rotation of The Ends, he sent scouts to sail South in nimble speedboats aiming to find additional islands, but instead recieved reports of a continent with civilized life. The sent additional scouts to this continent to recruit sailors, fisherman, and builders to assist in the construction of a new village.

When the recruits arrived from Voluien, Wren Maw founded the city of Sytheene, and carefully instructed sailors to retrieve valuable materials he previously discovered along his travels. Eventually, these sailors became the inaugural members of the Order of the Wounded Dragon - an adventurer's guild bound by the mission to fully chronicle The Ends.
