The Kingdom of Volkarde

Structure

Volkarde is ruled by Greatking Halver Halversson. The laity are represented by a People's Assembly who congregate in the Chambers of Law three times per year to enact legislative change to the nation.  The Greatking serves as the protector and figurehead of the peoples' will and shares power with the People's Assembly and the High Commander of the Army.  Generally speaking, the Greatking is oversees the High Commander, who oversees the People's Assembly, who oversee the Greatking.

Culture

Varies depending on the locale.  Urban Volkardians tend to embrace progressive causes stemming from a cosmopolitan makeup of people.  Rural Volkardians tend to be more traditional and conservative, generally untrusting of outsiders and resentful of taxes, dues, and conscription from the Crown

Public Agenda

The King and the People's Assembly have made no secret of their goals: the pacification of Sabian hostilities, settlement and annexation of the Vurkund lands in the north, and the fortification of the southern borders to keep Quetzon in check.

History

Volkarde as a nation has had its history inextricably linked with that of Oghmont.  In fact, the general perception at large within the greater politics of the world equate the goings-on of Oghmont as those of Volkarde as a whole despite seperate regional issues at large with the cities and towns residing within its borders.   Thus far, the most notable event was the Volkarde-Sabian war, in which relations between Al-Sabiyya and Volkarde break down as disputes between the territory near the city of Al-Rudiyya erupt. Volkarden farmers needed increasing amounts of land and the fertile plains near Al-Rudiyya suited their demands, however, Sabian nationals reported issues with Volkarden citizens entering the city and breaking laws. House Neome of Volkarde allegedly received intelligence that a Sabian attack was imminent following reports of massing Sabian forces in Al-Rudiyya. Volkarde struck first, and the ensuing war lasted 3 years in which Sabia razed 3 towns before the magic corps of Volkarde were unleashed in their entirety. Sabia sued for peace, leaving Al-Rudiyya in the hands of Volkarde.

For life, for freedom, for our ways, we shall fight.
