Human

The most widespread and adaptable species on Urth, and also the youngest. Humans, unlike the other races, lack a centralized consistent identity and boast a wide range of diverse cultures varying by region. Sabians, Volkardians, Free-City Folk, Vurkund, Quetzoni, Dalians, Midlanders, Gereshi, Khomerian, and Fushijin all have distinct and unique characteristics shaped by their experiences in the relatively short amount of time they've existed on Urth.

Civilization and Culture

History

Humans typically recognize only one shared history: their origins in the jungles of Quetzon and the subsequent migrations after their rapid explosion of growth. Both Human and Gnomish scholars agree that the human diaspora began with migrations to the northwest in what is now Sabia. Subsequent migrations spread north (the beginnings of the Vurkund) and across the former ice bridge connecting Esverde to Rusolte through the northern steppes (settlers here eventually became the Norvurk), and southwest along the coastal lands (midlanders) staying beside the ocean as the shoreline swung east leading into a mountainous jungle region (Geresh) and tropical riverlands (Khomer). Further studies show marine migrations from middle Esverde to Terrefore and from Khomer to Fushikyo.

Common Myths and Legends

Myths vary by region, though all cultures credit human existence to a singular deity of varying names. Esverdians (with special emphasis from Sabians) credit Alar. Gereshi and Khomerians attribute their creation to Brahmet. Vurkund and Norvurk tribes claim their origins from Ode The Allfather. Gnomish scholars believe these entities to be one and the same, as each legend states that years after the awakening of the Elder races, on the shores of Lake Totexco in Quetzon (a known nexus of ley energies) the creator of humans manifested and took human form. This first being was immensely powerful, able to wield powerful magics and bestowed with the knowledge of everything that was and would be. Though the world was already home to a number of peoples, this being foresaw that the existing races were not enough to resist the fiends of the outer planes. Thus, he created a new race in his image, one that would serve as the final piece needed to balance the struggle against eternal evil. Unlike the other races however, his creations would be given a choice in their destiny, unbound to any one fate, so that they may learn the true value of individual freedom and thus be a more effective ally in the endless war.   The Being created the first humans (and as such is given the aspect of creation and life), 17 in total, who would become the seeds for all to follow. While none were given any particular powers, they were all gifted with an extreme capacity for emotional experiences. These extremes formed the basis for their passions and it did not take many generations for the first human gods to ascend. Because of the greater potential of the human race to seek, assume, and control power, many more of their kind have ascended to godhood:   Ra - Neutral Good God of the Sun and Light
