Uzurhish Syndicate

The Mist (also known as "The Bloody Mist", "the yakuza" and "The Uzurhish Syndicate") is an organized crime syndicate originating from Tymeria. While they are only just becoming known in Magowan, they are the greatest organized crime ring in their home land.   The Ucurhish began as a small shipping company in Mekisr Altiui, a large city in the Tymerian Empire. Originally selling exotic goods and services, over time it became more profitable to exploit illegal curiosities from the region of the Green See and the city of Z'ar Ternosear. Through years of establishing their underworld contacts and employing tactical blackmail, The Mist evolved from illegal smuggling to a powerful and well-veiled criminal faction. The Mist has begun spreading into eastern Magowan. Much as they do in Tymeria, the Magowan Myriad keeps mainly to coastal cities and towns (such as Skeart, Merdun and Taktabar). This has led to a rivalry with Magowan's native crime syndicate, the Ascendants.

Structure

The leadership of the Uzurhish comprised the head of the organization and an inner circle of three advisors. These officers were each responsible for a different aspect of the Uzurhish's operations and mostly acted independently from one another.   The Arm: This individual arranged mercantile contracts, organizes the routes they used for trade, and handled their smuggling rings. Smooth-talking negotiators and those with a mind for business were often recruited to serve the Arm.   The Foot: This officer was responsible for protecting the organization's caravans and terriories and interfering with those belonging to other rivaling gangs. All manner of  exmilitary-thugs and criminals were reqruited to fight under their direction.   The Eye: A single spellcaster acted as a magical coordinator for the inner circle. They facilitated communication between members and gathered information by means of divination. Their agents included other spellcasters or those individuals with a strong network of informants. In addition to their other subordinates, these individuals were each served by three lesser officers, who were more involved with day-to-day operations. The full scope of their collective activities was known only by the Uzurhish's leader and their inner circle.

Public Agenda

Their goals are both to make money and to defend their long-lasting dominance and influence across the isles. Rulers and commanders who have stood against them have found themselves in trouble, blackmailed, politically outmanouvered or just plain dead. There is a cynical tradition amongst the historians and scholars of Mekisr Altiui  to set up a betting pool whenever word comes of a new anti-corruption policy, over which outcome will result and how long it will take.

Assets

It is one of the largest criminal organizations in the world. It had 8,900 active members at the end of 23 AC   The Uzurish has its headquarters in Mekisr Altiui, but it operates all across Tymeria  and has overseas operations. Its current kumichō (Boss), Kuglar Uzurhish, has declared an expansionist policy—even making inroads into Djerad Sikta, traditionally not Uzurish turf. They also have multiple groups working overseas.

History

Immediately after the Mekisr Altiui earthquake of 16 AC, the Uzurhish started a large-scale relief effort for the earthquake victims, helping with the distribution of food, supplies and temporary housing. This help was essential to the Mekisr Altiui population, because official support was inconsistent and chaotic for several days. The Uzurhish also provided relief in the wake of the 23 AC Z'ar Ternosar earthquake and tsunami by opening its offices to the public and by sending supplies to affected areas.
