Kalari Song-Shaman

The Kalari Song-Shaman are a type of spellcaster and magic tradition found among the Kalari Lashes. Song-Shaman typically specialize in elemental or druidic magic, which they use for both combat and to help their tribe. They often serve as religious leaders among Solarism and are expected to be versed in the ways of healing, dream interpretation and spiritual guidance. The Song-Shamen get their name from their peculiar form of Sympathetic Magic, which they channel through  distinctive guttural throat-singing.

Composition

Manpower

The Shaman are few in number, as it is rare for a tribe to posses more than one. Their numbers likely total fewer than 1,000 spread across all of the Redlands and Southern Steppe. There are assumed equal number of Lowland Kalari and Highland Kalari.

Weaponry

The most effective weapon a shaman wields are his spells. Their casting is produced via their iconic throat-singing, a method exclusive to the Kalari. The secrets of this technique are passed on from generation to generation. The Sympathetic Magic used is often elemental, such as fire, water, earth, and air or  otherwise nature-oriented. Kalari abhor most mind and blood magic, seeing it as evil and manipulative. Those particularly devoted to Sol will use powers withing it's sphere such as light and fire.

Logistics

Recruitment

Song-Shaman will take apprentices, who are kalari hatchlings who show a proclivity towards magic. The apprenticeship will last several years, during which the young kalari will be taught both magic and the esoteric arts of spiritual leadership. When they are ready, the apprentice will imbibe a special brew made with hallucinogenic herbs and undertake a spirit quest. These will unfold in many ways, not all of them involving the wayward apprentice returning alive. If they should return however, they are granted the veteran shaman's blessing and sent off to fulfill their role in a different Lash. In this way, the shaman is always an outsider to the Lash they serve.
