Highland Kalari

The Highland Kalari are the Kalari who live to the east of the White-Bone-Teeth Mountains in the Southern Steppe. They are similar to their western cousins, the Lowland Kalari in most regards, having only split from their population in the last couple hundred years. They tend to differentiated by their more mottled-yellow coloration and their more militaristic attitude.

Major language groups and dialects

The Highland Kalari speak a dialect of Kalash, which is distinct from their western cousins in ways that are indistinguishable to an outsider. Some highlanders also learn to speak Hoondi as a trade language.

Culture and cultural heritage

The highland kalari put a far greater emphasis on honor than the Lowland Kalari, following a strict warriors' code. Many take up archery, or other specialized weapons training in order to better protect their Lashes. Every able-bodied Kalari in the tribe is expected to be able to fight, should the need arise. The need here is perhaps greater than in the Redlands as the tribes face threats from Skeggi raiders, Rajji slavers and wild monsters.

Major organizations

The kalari of the highlands are a part of the Kalari Lashes that encompass the nomadic kalari tribes. Most highland tribes will host a Kalari Song-Shaman who will act as a spiritual guide and protector. Most lashes are heavily associated with Solarism which serves as the primary faith.
