Mars

Fourth planet from Sol.

Mars is the fourth planet of The Sol System and has a tilt of 25°. It has a global population of 59 million spread across 144 nations, with its cities built in concentric circles around a major 'hub'. Temperatures range from -100° to 65°, whilst averaging at 20°. 62% of Mars' gravity is artificially generated.   Mar is an ancient plant but has a young, artificial magnetosphere. It is further from Sol than Terra but has hotter temperatures.   It has an atmosphere of oxygen, carbon dioxide, argon, nitrogen and traces of methane. The planet also experiences a lot of extreme sandstorms.   Water from Mars is high in iron. 42% of Mars' energy is hydropower, 31% is wind, 14% is solar energy and 13% comes from kinetic sources.   Its major industries include the steel industry. Most transportation is achieved with hypertubes, hovervehicles, planes, boats and submarines. It is a popular tourist destination due to its rainforests and deserts.   People from Mars are called Martians, and products from Mars are described as Martian.

Terraforming

In 2020 five locations were chosen around the surface of Mars for terraforming to start. The first two locations were the poles, where electrodes were inserted deep into the surface of the planet and used to jumpstart the planets core and magnetic field. These probes also slowely released oxygen, ammonia and methane into the Martian atmosphere. The other probes, placed at equidistance alond the equator, brought plants such as lichen, marram grass and genetically engineered supertrees to the planet and, underneath pressurised domes, grew these on the surface. Algae and some bacteria were also brought over.   In the following months, 12 more probes arrived, bringing more plants, and 140 pressurised habitats were dropped to the surface of the planet. Simulated Gravity Satellites where also deloyed into orbit, increasing the gravity on the planet to be equal to Earth.   This began to build up the atmosphere of the planet and made its atmosphere more stable. On the 2nd of February 2021, crews from 140 of Terra's 195 countries landed on the surface of the planet at given locations. These crews began manned terraforming, planting crops and other plants, starting inside the habitats. The algae outside continued to introduce oxygen and warm up the planet by increasing albedo.   Once formed, the new Martian atmosphere allowed for people to live outside of the domed cities, and so they were dismantled in 2030 and sent to Luna.   Due to the new atmosphere, a lot of Mars old oceans returned, which was expected. What wasn't expected was the amount of water that condensed over the 13 year terraforming mission.

Geography

Most of the land on Mars is in the southern hemisphere. Temperate and tropical regions have reddish soil whilst deserts have red sand, due to the high iron content. There are also many mountains.

Fauna & Flora

Flora and fauna coverage is similar to that of Terra's warmer regions.

Natural Resources

Silicon and metals within the rock, iron from the natural soil and sand.
