Draconic Clan

In the Arid mountains of Fefiera resides almost the entire world's population of Dragonborn who relocated there is a share mass exodus several centuries ago.

Structure

While after the first wave of the migration concluded the clan was incredibly disorganized and given to chaos. Shortly after the arrival of the second wave, Tazlasar Drechuash (a prominent and influential Dragonborn official from Edane) began organizing a state out of the disarray.

Declaring himself the Great Wyrm, he began electing chiefs and generals out of the populace to form a kind of non-democratic, parliamentarian system where the chiefs gather together to form a political body they call a Cerst and advise the great wyrm on matters of diplomacy, economics, warfare, etc.

History

Prior to the draconic migration of almost 800 years ago, the dragonborn lived throughout the world as regular citizens with know real sense of culture or ownership. Midway through the year of 482 AP, that all changed. Every Dragonborn of the time claims to have, evidently on the same evening, had a tremendous visionary experience where they were called to the Arid Mountains of Fefiera. So powerful was this preternatural calling that most of them couldn't shake the instinctual need to go there, and so they did...all of them.

Most records of the event indicate that the various dragonborn individuals were unaware that their entire species had experienced the same calling they'd felt, but they all soon learned of their shared experience along the road as they ran into droves of other migrating dragonborn heading for the mountains.

To this day no on is entirely sure why the calling was made, who made it or how the tens of thousands of dragonborn throughout the world all experienced the same message. Many believe it was a message from Disoi, calling their wayward children to a home of their own, but she has obviously not come forward to corroborate this. And so it remains a mystery, the only thing anyone can say definitively is that the vision came true, and the dragonborn now have a home for themselves, an Identity and a culture all to themselves.

Demography and Population

The Draconic Clan is located entirely within the Arid Mountains, a mountain range in south western Fefiera that runs for about 600 miles along the continent's southern coastline.

The mountain range is incredibly hostile and nearly uninhabitable, with rough barely cultivable land, any life sought in that region is destined to be a hard one. But the Dragonborn have proven that they are a hardy people and have not only survived, but thrived. Several hundred settlements exist throughout the mountain range, with the largest population centers being located along the southern edge of the mountains almost directly in the center of the range.

Territories

Although no one ever actually gave them the Arid Mountains and its surrounding highlands, the area was barren and harsh enough a location to live that no one really contested the Dragonborn when they settled the region. As such, their claim on the mountain range is more traditional than legal.

Military

For an otherwise peaceful people, the Dragonborn clan is not one to be messed with. Their Military is a surprisingly important tenet of their society dating back to the clan's formation. Conventional wisdom would suggest this came about as a result of a militia being the first thing they needed to defend themselves from the aggressive creatures of the Arid Mountains and thus the first Cerst had its members drawn from that militia resulting in undue focus and importance on their martial achievements.

The majority of their military is mounted, owing to the Dragonborns' genetic ancestry to flying creatures, and even some of their lowest born warriors take winged mounts such as griffons, wyverns and the like. They have a few grounded infantry divisions that are comprised of the lowest born members of society (bastards, reformed criminals, captured enemy combatants, etc.), but the majority of their force are airborn mounted combatants.

Foreign Relations

The Draconic clan has need for many things their home cannot provide, and therefore stable and productive relations with just about every foreign entity is paramount to their success and survival. The majority of their relations range from indifferent to positive with very few examples of hostility among them.

Of their many relations, the two most prominent are between The Sovereign Republic of Fefiera and @[The Nomadic Emirates of Fefiera](organization:de56311f-7775-4a67-9a4a-d60a15d576af. Both of which are generally considered positive relations, with a few outside elements of hostile Emirati tribes.

Trade & Transport

The Clan's primary trading partners would be The Nomadic Emirates of Fefiera and The Sovereign Republic of Fefiera. Trade with the republic is primarily to acquire textiles and manufacturing goods, while trade with the Emirates is centered around agriculture and food. In exchange the Clan offers the wealth of the mountains, with hundreds of mines yielding up precious metals and stones of almost every nature.

Infrastructure

Among many other achievements, probably the most impressive infrastructural accomplishment the clan has achieved is their mail system. At this present time it is far superior to any mail delivery system in Unorrea. When the clan was first organized, scattered as it was all over the mountain range, the first Cerst saw a need for constant and rapid communication with all of it's settlements to make sure the organization of a new government went smoothly and efficiently. Hundreds of relay stations were built on and throughout the mountain range where parcel and message carriers would arrive and be given a fresh and rested mount and continue on their journey.

In recent decades this system has been updated and adapted for aerial-mounted travel, and each relay station has a small house attached to it that can provide messengers with a place to rest and recover along with their mounts. Between the number of relays available offering fresh mounts and rest, and the addition of flying mounts a single messenger is able to carry a deliver an average of 256 miles a day with a single mount change in the process.

This is far superior to the overland mail systems of any other nation apart from The Empire which utilizes Rail Riders for parcel delivery for some of its locations. when you factor in the time it takes to make a delivery in a relay station or nearby settlement, and the overall length of the Arid Mountain range most residents of the mountains can expect their messages to be delivered same or next day, with a few hours delivery in some locations making communication throughout the Arid Mountains relatively instantaneous in comparison to the other nations of the world.
