Sensitive

“Selene told me that the Stones' latest baby has no magic," Cian said quietly.   “What?" I was flabbergasted; the Stones were a very strong magical family, and a baby without magic was unheard of in a family so magically strong. “Are they sure?"   Cian nodded. “Yes. Selene examined the child herself."   “So what are they going to do with the child?" I asked reluctantly. I really didn't want to know the answer, because no outcome was a positive one.   Cian shrugged, but he looked sad. “I don't know. Gods bless the child."   “Gods bless the child," I agreed; Cian and I worshipped separate gods, but any help for this child was needed.
A Sensitive is a witch that has the power to determine the existence and power of another witch's magic. Sensitives are required at every baby's Arbitrium as well as at other events in which a witch's power needs to be determined. Sensitives are very rare, so their demand is high. Because of this, children born with the proper form of Psychic Magic needed to be a Sensitive are "forcefully guided" into the profession.   Sensitives determine both the child's Born Magic and their level of power.

Accuracy

Sensitives are right about a child's Born Magic about 90% of the time. They are correct about a child's level of power about 55% of the time. Because of these high numbers, parents often trust a Sensitive implicitly in the first case, and middling in the second.

Noted incorrect cases

Vesper Cross's Sensitive incorrectly identified his Born Magic as Illusion Magic. Show Spoiler
Later, we'll fnd out this is because his Sensitive, Melina Chase, was a Malum and this was on purpose.
Phineas Glass's Sensitive correctly indentified his Born Magic as Nature Magic but incorrectly guessed that his power would be very weak.

Choice

Parents may request a particular Sensitive, but the Council ultimately gives Sensitives their assignments. (This is also a source of bribery in this part of the Council!)

Career

Qualifications

Being a Sensitive requires a witch be born with Psychic Magic; in addition, it requires a specific kind of Psychic Magic that only a portion of those even born with Psychic Magic possess.

Career Progression

There is no career progression to be a Sensitive; all are respected, although the longer one is a Sensitive, the more sought after they may be.

Payment & Reimbursement

Sensitives are very well-paid, since there are very few Sensitives in United Britannia and Hibernia.

Other Benefits

Sensitives are held in very high regard, due to their scarcity and power.

Perception

Purpose

Sensitives' main job is to attend Arbitriums and determine the existence and power of a child. They may be also called upon when a witch's power is being questioned as an adult.

Demographics

There are very few Sensitives in United Britannia and Hibernia; in fact, only about 30% of those born with Psychic Magic can becomes Sensitives.

History

Sensitives have been used for several centuries; their first recorded use was in the 10th century.

Operations

Materials

Sensitives carry with them the required document to sign when they participate in an Arbitrium.

Workplace

Sensitives visit wherever the family has chosen to hold the Arbitrium.

Provided Services

Sensitives can be called upon for an Arbitrium, as well as by the Magisterium or Council in order to test a witch's true magical power.   They determine a child's Born Magic as well as their level of power.

Level of power

The level of power generally falls into one of these categories: nonexistent, very weak, weak, average, strong, immense. However, parents typically realize that this measurement from Sensitives is much less assured than determining their Born Magic, and an incorrect guess will usually not lose the Sensitive too much reputation. Sensitives that are more accurate are obviously more sought after; a Sensitive's record is publicly kept by the Council.
