Psychic Magic

Psychic Magic is a type (or branch) of magic that exists in the world of United Britannia and Hibernia. Psychic Magic is unique from other branches of magic because one cannot simply be a practitioner of it; they either are born with it, or they are unable to practice it at all.

One unique aspect

It's extraordinarily difficult--although not impossible--to lie to a witch with Psychic Magic. When it suits them, the Council will have someone testify in front of a powerful Psychic witch and then determine guilt by the Psychic witch's conclusion. However, most witches recognize that those conclusions should not be admissible in a court of law.

Regulation

Psychic Magic is not heavily regulated by the Council. This is largely because those with Psychic Magic do a good job of regulating its uses; most that practice it won't read for family members and friends, for example, and set a large number of regulations for when and how they use their magic. In some cases, the Council is required to step in for Psychic witches, but it's rare.

Subtypes

There are many different types of Psychic Magic, but the most common is divination/scrying retrocognition (the ability to see in the past), precognition (the ability to see into the future), and psychometry (ability to glean information about a person through their objects). In most instances, objects used in Psychic Magic (like tarot cards, scrying bowls, etc.) will not work without Psychic Magic (this is also why tarot cards are mostly harmless to humans, for example).
Cian Ryan is an extremely powerful Psychic witch; he mainly practices with tarot cards, but he has strong psychometry abilities and some precognitive abilities.

Limits

Psychic Magic is perhaps one of the most fickle types of magic. Because of this, Psychic witches are most affected by outside influences and often have to take breaks when they are utilizing it often.
The biggest limit of Psychic Magic is that it is not always absolutely correct. People change their minds, which can drastically change the reading. Psychic witches also may not read the magic correctly; proficiency at Psychic Magic is not only measured in using the Psychic tools correctly but also in the ability to read the tools accurately.

Careers

Many born with Psychic Magic give readings of all kinds to fellow witches to make money, become teachers/professors, or join the military. One of the most well-respected Psychic Magic businesses in Ilyrium is Cian's Tarot Readings.

Sensitives

Main article: Sensitive
Sensitives are witches born with a very specific type of Psychic Magic; because of this, it's unlikely the Council would allow someone born with this type of magic to be anything but a Sensitive. However, because Sensitives are so rare and sought after, most don't mind that career.
