Magisterium

The Magisterium is considered the ultimate body of power in United Britannia and Hibernia. Although the Council oversees all of the daily business of UBH, the Magisterium has the ultimate authority and can overrule the Council if it chooses (it very rarely does). The Magisterium's secrets are numerous; no one knows the identities of the members, how they are chosen, or even what business keeps them busy enough to meet twice a week. As far as the population of United Britannia and Hibernia know, the Magisterium is there for two reasons: to oversee the Council if the Council oversteps its bounds and to test witches for their Exams and Promotions. The Magisterium is housed in the Magisteria, which is located right next to the Council building. The Magisterium wear long black robes and veils and meet at such different times and days it is difficult to know when they meet at all (although the consensus seems to be that it is twice a week).

Structure

Like much to do with the Magisterium, there is little known about the structure of it. However, it is known that there is a Magister who heads the group; he or she is elected for life and is voted on by the group. As to any other roles, not much is known.

Public Agenda

The public agenda of the Magisterium is unknown; many assume it is simply to have an anonymous overseeing over the Council. Others speculate that the Magisterium is only ever in utilized when witches are to be tested for Exams and Promotions or to go to war (something that has never happened). The Magisterium does not feel as though it needs to justify its existence.

Assets

Again, the assets of the Magisterium are another unknown facet of the group. It is assumed that the Council provides funds from their own, but many would question what the Magisterium even needs assets for.

History

The Magisterium was founded in 47 CE, roughly a decade before the Council. As predicted, their known history is sparse; perhaps the only solid fact is that the Magisterium has existed steadily since then.
