Gemini had a difficult childhood. His family was one that was barely able to afford to stay under the dome, and he saw parts of life Omega actively tried to hide from most Citizens. As a young teen, he took a job with the Prosperi to help his mother keep food on the table. This opened his eyes to more violence, and he was punished for that and for smuggling contraband into New Astor. Gem was one of the few Project Citizens who always loved spending time outside the dome. His work in the Prosperi actually gave him this opportunity. He taught himself to fish and hunt in the hours he would sit outside waiting for drops of cigarettes or pornography. While in the prison camp, he grew angry and started to hate other Project Citizens for their lack of understanding of what was “out there”. He also felt so mistreated and overlooked by the UAP and the society Omega built, he hated anyone who was treated with basic dignity when he believed he should be but wasn’t. One of the few career opportunities available to someone who has been to the prison camps is to be an Ore Guard and ride the Orbit protecting minerals from hijackers and thieves. He spent his first few years as a local guard, trying to gain respect from his superiors, until he was finally promoted to a long-range position. For this, he needed special weapons training, intense training to brave the elements, riot training, and other military-style preparation. But he had no interest in being an Ore Guard. Gemini spent years attaining specialized education and making as much money as he could so he would be able to break free from the UAP. On his first long-range guard mission, he built out an elaborate plan to reach Lonetree, slip away from his technological monitoring systems, and meet up with a coyote who would help him escape into Texas, where he hoped to join one of the more extremist chapters of Scorpius Bond.
