Grace Callaghan grew up in New Astor, in the epicenter of The Unified America Project. Her mother, Beatrice Callaghan was high up within the Omega - she worked for the Project Guild in “risk assessment,” creating programs that determined which Citizens had the personality profile to be trusted with credits, homes, knowledge, anything they could control. Her biological father had been Prosperi. Something Beatrice had spent a lifetime trying to escape the stigma of, if only because she hated it so much herself.
Grace spent the first 20 years of her life back and forth between the highest and lowest parts of UAP society, seeing and understanding more about how their world was constructed and the truth of what lay outside the dome than most other Project Citizens would ever see. Because of the way she lived between worlds, Grace could fit in anywhere, but she felt like she fit nowhere. When she was 21, Beatrice passed away suddenly, under suspicious circumstances. To remove herself from the worlds she never belonged in and her mother’s shadow, Grace disappeared to the Independent Nation of Texas a year later. She kept in contact with no one from her old life, and kept to herself, engaging in disruption to fight back against injustice and taking care of those who couldn’t care for themselves. She spends a lot of her time in Lonetree with her ear to the ground, waiting to find out where her help may be needed, and what the Omega are up to. She makes occasional money as a coyote and smuggling, but only when things are tight or the person or item is important. Otherwise, she keeps secrets and watches people, analyzing and synthesizing all of the information she can to further the cause of Renegade.
For someone who prefers to live in complete isolation, Grace does make the strange choice to drive a gas powered vehicle and travel with a large dog, which scares even the most modded up militia guys, and war beaten Beta enforcers away. She stands out just enough that people know who she is, but not enough to have to interact most of the time. That kind of notoriety while being avoided allows her to do her job in peace.
