Captain Oum Shroud, The Changling

Oum Shroud is the Changeling counselor of Lacertillia who helped organize the survivors into groups. Oum was a military man in the Shadow Republic, leading the militias of several villages. Oum was highly organized and insightful, being able to inspire others to follow orders. Much of Lacertilia's early survival is credited to him.

History

Time in the Shadow Republic

Oum was born in a small village around Hope. He was brought up having to keep his identity secret while helping to defend his village from Phervian counterattacks. Joining the town militia when he was old enough, Oum quickly rose up the ranks, even becoming a professional soldier due to his ability to understand how to motivate others and handle logistics, making the rank of Captain.

Orginising the survivors

In 46 Rebel, it was revealed he was a Changeling, being accused of being a spy in the process. Oum was chased out of the Shadow Republic, hurriedly boarding the first ship he could. This ship was wrecked on Lacertillia, with around a hundred survivors, Oum quickly started to organize them into groups according to their skills, leading to a power struggle between himself, Grahain, and Rolakas that was settled by the forming of the council.
With the council formed Oum organized the populace to achieve the agreed projects, working closely with Hjalmar a lot of the time. He also organized supplies with Rolakas to help them last, using Grahain's voice to get others' onside. This did lead to a misclassification of the Gdooble tree fruit, as an inedible fuel, This was changed after Neal was seen, nearly continuously, eating them.

Lacertillian defense

When the hunters tried to remove Grahain from the council, Oum helped led the charge, though this was unsuccessful. Grahain pointed out after the vote that it would have been even more one-sided if Oum's heritage was brought in. After this Oum removed himself from politics for the most part, focusing instead on building defenses to help repel the more aggressive lizards of the Island and prepare in case of attack.
What was surprising for Oum was when Lacertillia became a safe haven for Changelings, with freedom from racial persecution being added by Grahain into the constitution, specifically naming Changelings as the example of not allowed. This allowed more freedom for Oum in his day-to-day life.

Warrior to the end

With skirmishes still raging across the western continent, and hostilities reigniting, Oum led his small fleet to assist in the Battle of Azurei in 57 Rebel, continuing his assault on pirates and slavers in the following years. He used Gdobble oil, much to Cornilius' displeasure, as a weapon for the first time. In fact, several conflicts involving Phervian and Draconian fleets in the Crystal Bay area set the stage for the Greatwyrm battle that'd take place there.
In the Battle of Crystal Bay, Oum was performing a boarding action against a Draconian ship when Zezhuanth slammed Vupeiss into the said ship, killing all on board. Oum's body was lost, making him the only member of the Lacertillian council not to be buried in Lacertillia.

Legacy

Oum instilled a sense of community in Lacertillia, not only ensuring it's early survival but laying the groundwork for several future events, including the invention of the Fireship and Night of the Burning sea.
