Game Journal 32.03 Morvion's Swan Song

Morvion wasted no time in going back to the plain where Majalacturis had been killed. Searching, he found no hint of any remains for his family. Disheartened, he still felt duty-bound to the elves which had followed Letheria and survived the ordeal. Gathering them up, he headed back north to Canton. When he arrived, he found that Nerisht't had died at the same moment Majalacturis had died.   Once there, he encountered the remnants Majalacturis's elves which were from the other Canton and combined both groups. His intention had been to head back to Chrailis with the followers of Letheria. He now felt responsible for both groups, so he changed his mind. He took control of the leadership for both groups. It wasn’t the most difficult as both Majalacturis and Letheria had already made it know that he was to be a leader to each of the respective groups.   He renounced his service to Letheria and gave those elves who followed her a choice. Any elf wishing to stay could stay, but they would embrace the culture of the jungle elf. He wasn't going to force any elf to give up Letheria, though he would reign in many of their darker practices. Any wishing to leave could leave, but they were warned that except for Chrailis, there really wasn’t anywhere for them to go. For those that decided to leave for Chrailis, he arranged travel to the city. For those that still wished to follow Letheria, he kept his promise and put them in contact with Lady Sherayne.   It would be four months before he made it back to Chrailis again. Those four months were busy repairing the village of Canton and with the help of the neighboring tribes, trying to repair a society destroyed by Majalacturis. Over half the elves which had made a home out in the western jungles had been killed by the dark god. Of those, most had survived by fleeing and were only now returning to their ancestral homes.   When he finally returned to Chrailis, he felt that his previous goal of rooting out Letheria from Chrailis was no longer paramount. His time was needed rebuilding his village.   He never did approach the Coterie about his wife and children. After four months of working to repair Canton, he felt he had found his answer. He was now rebuilding the village where they had been killed, but in a truer sense, he was rebuilding his home. He now recognized that their bodies had likely been left where they had fallen, and like the rest of the slain elves of his village, were now part of the biome around Canton. The elf way was to return the body to the forest from which it was borrowed. Gruesome as their deaths had been, their spirits were at peace. Morvion had avenged their deaths, killing the one ultimately responsible.   Whereas before he had been unable to accept that their spirits had moved on into the great trees, now that his hatred had disappeared, he was once again able to embrace his beliefs. It also allowed him to assume the role of shaman for his village. But not just for his village, he became the head shaman of all the surrounding villages north of the Zygarosse. Morvion had found a peace which he hadn’t known for a long time, if ever.   Morvion never did give his name up by returning to his old name. To have done so would have been to deny the dark time in his life.   Having broken his connection to Chrailis, he eventually made it out to the moon gate. Using his magic, he buried the gate and along with it, buried Godkiller. The dark urges of the spear only brought about hostile thoughts of vengeance. He knew that he could summon the spear to hand in an instant if ever needed, but for now, he wanted to break the connection. With time, he learned to use the mythic gifts he had gained to reverse the vampiric tendencies granted by the spear.   And with time, he had other children and grandchildren. Children who grew up and prospered in a healed Canton. The day Morvion handed over the official shaman duties to his granddaughter was one of the greatest moments in his life.
