Wintershire
The northernmost community in Banern Province.
Geography
Wintershire is surrounded by cliffs and foothills at its back, which rise up into a series of mountains. The community is at a higher elevation than the rest of the province, and accessible only by one road which is steep and treacherous in places.Architecture Style
The community of Wintershire is surrounded by a large wall of logs, sharpened to a point on top. This wall wraps around the community and is attached on either end to the cliff faces behind Wintershire. Houses tend to be lower to the ground, roofs are pitched a little steeper than in other communities for snow removal, and walls are built thicker and with fewer windows to keep more warmth in. Chimneys are built either from fieldstone or bricks made of a dried plant & clay mud slurry. Wintershire “Castle” is not as large as the Emperor’s castle and is mostly built into a cliff, with only the first third of the space on the outside of the rock, the rest being a warren of rooms, cellars, a library, a kitchen and prison cells far beneath the rest of the facility. It was designed this way to protect the ruler.Government
The Ruler of Wintershire has historically been a Count, but when Count Jessan Aran dies, Viscountess Osya Adela is sent from Imperial City to rule in the Emperor's stead.
