Erebus (e-ra-bis)

God of darkness

One of the first primordials to be born from Chaos at the moment of creation, Erebus represents the very concept of darkness itself. As such, he is feared by many mortals as an evil distainsquabbles his fellow immortals often engage in.

Erebus’s Champions

Alignment: Neutral, sometimes evil
Suggested Classes: Cleric, rogue, warlock
Suggested Cleric Domains: Darkness, Twilight
Suggested Backgrounds: Acolyte, sage, urchin

Mortals that claim to be champions of Erebus are those that believe the power of darkness is something to be respected, not feared. When his servants look into the shadows, they do not feel fear; instead, they are inspired.

Erebus’s Favor

As a primordial entity, Erebus does not involve himself in mortal affairs as directly as his Titan and Olympian descendants. Nevertheless, he is wise enough to keep a select few eyes and ears on the mortal plane.

Why did Erebus seek you out as a champion? The following table offers a few suggestions.
D6 Circumstance
1 A cave-in left you trapped for days in pitch darkness. You survived by praying to Erebus for strength.
2 You have always had a talent for hiding in the dark.
3 You were once attacked by a creature of pure shadow, but for reasons unknown it fled.
4 Your family has served a cult of Erebus for countless generations.
5 When you were born you were branded with the mark of Erebus. Since then he has watched over you.
6 You were the first mortal in a thousand years to uncover and restore an ancient shrine to the god of darkness.

Devotion to Erebus

Following Erebus means submitting to the power of darkness out of respect, not fear or awe. As a follower of Erebus, consider the ideals below as alternatives to those suggested for your background.
