Gilded Moss

Observation Log of KLO Mimi Lakes: Gilded Moss

Analysemonth the 23rd, Year 53 of the Century of the Nymphs, 26th Cycle   Gilded moss is often found in mossy glades in the Great Forest or in moss caverns in the Ocean. The moss from the Ocean, however, is often found with Magic Moss, so It takes a skilled Mermaid to distinguish the two ... I mean, they looked pretty different, plus the smell! Magic Moss is so much tastier. Anyways, in the Ocean, they grow pretty much mingling together, so that someone has to be careful when separating them, especially as just touching magic moss can sometimes cause issues for those not prepared.

Taste of a Moss

So, gilded moss is not very poisonous. Like, it's bad to eat, but if it's cooked, any smoke made isn't poisonous. Also, if there's smoke, you're cooking it wrong.
Anyways, Almeta came to see me recently, and he had made a lot of cookies to test which is better - he only didn't see Hoen and make more cause he has a time limit to see me on land. It's only cause of his sister, Elder Jazzah, even though he will be fine, but whatever - I'm told not to annoy her anymore, else she'll steal my brooch and not let me see AB anymore, so I'll try.
So the cookies that he made are even better than the ones before. I thought he would add or replace different moss on the cookies I already love, but he totally changed the recipe for some of them - depending on the tastes. Even though he can't eat the poison himself! Well, I was right next to him taste testing everything and telling him what I tasted. He made it taste good even though when Reagan stopped by, he just said my exclamations made no sense at all! I guess AB understands me more.
Anyway, so the Magic Moss cookies were the best flavour. I expected it, of course, but it was much closer than expected. The worse by far was the gilded moss cookies, though. They weren't bad, per se (I don't think AB could make anything bad), but they weren't that good either. Like, maybe war rations level?

Taegrin: It's a little more than cooking, there are several processes to pass through, cooking is just part of one of the processes.
Mimi: So its cooked wrong if you only cook it and don't do the other processes.
Taegrin: Just cause he gets your food weirdness doesn't mean he understands you better than me.
Mimi: You know how much I like food though?!
Almeta Bearach: Taegrin is right that there is more to you than the food you like.
Mimi: AB! You found our notes :)
Taegrin; How would you know what war rations level is?
Mimi: *shrugs*
AB: We looked at some books when she mentioned it. it might be the same...
Taegrin: You don't have to go along with all the time, you know. She'll need someone with backbone.
AB: ... I'll keep that in mind.

Gilded Moss Uses

So making cookies are out. However, the moss is mostly used as a power source. There is a process involving cooking that utilises the magical energy sealed within the moss. As the moss has a physical golden seal around it, and is easy to acquire from the Great Forest moss glades, it has been used as a power source and use of gold for a long, long time. In saying that, depending what process you put the moss through, the colour you get may change, be it a shade of gold, silver, rose gold to a sheening white. I have an ornament at home made with the sheening white colour.
The moss wasn't found to be a power source until after it had been used for its outer colour. The material isn't quite a metal, but almost. So, to get rid of the moss underneath the almost metal, different processes were used. At some point, energy was found to be released from some of these processes and eventually became the electricity we know today.

Conclusion

The gilded moss we process to make electricity will not win any cookie-making contests, even if AB is the one making them. It's not bad, but not good either. Guess it's better to keep it as just a power source.

AB: Um, Taegrin?
Taegrin: Yeah? (What even is this??)
AB: Ah, after eating the gilded moss cookies, mimi has been shimmering.. like, there's lightning in her eyes?
Taegrin: Either she loves em or hates em.
AB: I think it's a little bit different to that.
Tegrin: Well, stop feeding her for starter!
AB: ... She stole the plate and ran off. Faster than I've ever seen.
Taegrin: ... She isn't the lightning puddle dump I heard from the students... This is why shes an exchange student...
AB: ??

Sonni: I'll have this submitted under a diary entry ... Just be warned that there will be stricter requirements when you are promoted to KLO-2.
  Council Notes
See that Elder Jazzach gives AB a chance to think over the job of (moss distinguished). The fact that he can differentiate and not get hurt while separating the moss is quite advantageous. also, this is another point for Mimi to tell the difference between moss used, especially if they are not used in a normal way.
