The High Desert and the Low Desert

The High Desert and the Low Desert are two geographical regions that have long puzzled cartographers. To most observers, it is puzzling why these regions are so alike, with only a steep mountain range and elevation differences to distinguish the two.

Summary

Legend goes that there was a single desert in Matonga. During the Era of Chaos, the Old Ones would held trials to determine their superiority. One skill of prestige was moving land masses. Two particularly powerful Old Ones agreed to a show-off in the desert.
Before the first could lift his hand, the other started raising the land.
One summoned water in the center of the plateau, the other made it flow.
Determined to be mightier than the other, neither would ever confess their bother.
And when all their stamina was spent, both Old Ones were buried beneath the land.
Some believe these trials were the origin of all mountains and landmasses, but this is likely untrue as the Otness Clan claims to have inhabited the Otness mountains from before the Era of Chaos. The water that is spoken of in the myth originates at what is now known as Skazire and flows all the way underground to Clearwen, where it becomes the Clearwen river.

Spread

The High Desert and Low Desert are well known geographical areas within Matonga. However, most of this knowledge was not acquired first-hand since the inhospitable lands are scarcely populated and traveled by few.
