Brandan Galland

Brandan Galand was born and raised in the same small village as Erynn Greywolf. He was sent to serve the royal guard when he was around the age of adulthood, leaving his single mother and little brother behind. As long as he was in service, he could freely attend an education at the colleges in Clearwen. He studied archeology and would send any money he could spare back home. Later in his career, he was one of the guardsmen who would accompany the royal family on their yearly holiday to the mountains. Without meaning to, he witnessed a secret conversation of the family about the ritual that must be performed every Tred, at the human New Year’s Eve. The king seemed to think this ritual was nonsense and did not believe the queen when she explained it to her family, and explained how she must be next. He investigated this legend and was noticed by his colleague Jared Hymn, who introduced Brandan to the Firal. The two became good friends and carried out a few missions together. After his, his orders were to return to the most quiet life as possible. New orders would come at some point. Around this time, he got the news that his mother passed away and since the most quiet life he ever knew was in that tiny little village, he moved back to be with his brother.   Simple years followed. Brandan was employed by the national guard to train new recruits. He never found love, but his brother married and had a daughter, Erynn. He loved that little girl and she brought happiness to his simple life. No orders came, except on the day of the storm: the queen had died and though nothing was confirmed yet, the expectation was that it was not of natural causes. When the storm struck out of nowhere, he ran to his brothers place only to find both his brother and his wife crushed by their house. Erynn's mothers last words were about her: she went into the woods, I pray she is fine... She gave him a locket with the names of Erynn and her parents. Brandan ran into the woods to search for Erynn, knowing most of her favorite hiding spots and checking all of them. While checking one of them out, he spotted something else: a thiefling from The Great Glorifiers.   He never found Erynn and devastated by the loss of her more than that of her parents combined, he threw himself on the new mission of the mysterious death of the queen and the desert person.   He knew the queen was buried with jewelry and since the king did not believe in the power of her amulet, she must have been buried with it. He sought out his old friend, who was now Sir Jared Song. This guy could really fight with a rapier. They opened her grave and got caught in the act. He managed to take the amulet off the corpse and a heavy fight between him and other guards followed, which injured Jared badly. Brandan got away, but one of the guardsmen died from injuries. This made him an outlaw, with the name of grave robber. Once they were safely alone, they examined the amulet and learned it no longer held inside what they were looking for. Once in the Firal Hideout in Clearwen, Jared died of his injuries. He is buried in the catacombes of the hideout in an honorable grave, together with his rapier. Taking on the role of outlaw, he used his archaeological skills to learn as much as possible about the thieflings and the missing stone.   The stone needed for the ritual had been replaced with a note. He met with the royal children (now almost adolescent) and they tasked him to find the stone, giving him some clues of who might have taken the amulet. The note was written in deep speech, which took him some time to figure out and get translated. "I'm sorry, this had to be done. It is for the cause."   His journey took him to far places as he learned about The Great Glorifiers and their search for archaeological treasure to worship the Old Ones. Hoping to somehow trade one treasure for the other, he set out to search a treasure for himself. One of the treasures they were hunting, he found first: an amulet worn by some priest. Brandan learned it was supposed to be guarded by lady Sybil, who is part of the Firal as well. He stole the amulet in Greymoor, since he was pretty sure it didn't belong to the priest in the first place. Him looting nearby churches makes for the inns to post his wanted picture, which his niece Erynn finds. She recognizes him despite his wrinkled face, helped by the necklace he used to carry back in the day that showed the Firal symbol.   The next step for Brandan is to set a meeting with the The Great Glorifiers and propose a trade.
