Randi Carter vs. Sanada Nobuyuki

Sporting Event / Competition

Day 2; Independent Match 2

Following the first match, Randi Carter and Sanada Nobuyuki took to the arena. While they carried themselves like warriors, both combatants appeared to be little more than girls. A few discerning eyes from the audience caught Randi's magical shield and the skillful way she handled her greatsword. Not lost either was Sanada Nobuyuki's wide sleeves, packed with hidden weaponry. These points were taken into consideration for the inevitable betting which transpired behind the scenes.

Already having taken the high ground on a mound across the canal before the match began, Sanada Nobuyuki remained there as its start was called, and taunted Randi from afar. Seeing this, her opponent moved to the mirroring mound on the other side, and remained there placidly. Not rising to the other's catcalls, she sheathed her weapon and began to accumulate magic.   With puffed cheeks at the Dreamer's obvious disregard, Nobuyuki clambered down her hillock and made across the canal by way of the dirt bridge. She was unable to make it quite close enough to strike Randi with a melee weapon, but opted instead to unleash a flurry of chained katana from her sleeves in a wave.   Pushing the assault away with one arm, Randi surprised Nobuyuki by leaping down from the dirt mound and attempting to counter with her bare hands. Though her punch landed a solid blow on Nobuyuki's stomach, it wasn't enough to pass through the girl's ashigaru armor. Pulling back for another attack, Randi infused this one with spellpower. As it landed, again harmlessly, threads of creation magic wove around Nobuyuki, only to break and dissolve without effect.   From the audience, Takenaka Hanbei confided in her allies that this failure wasn't likely a result of any innate magical resistance, but rather Nobuyuki's own defiant personality.   Surprised at the lack of effect her spell had produced, Randi still had the wherewithal to finish with a conjuring before her opponent could react. Calling upon that special power inherited by all Dreamers, she created a block of solid stained glass around Nobuyuki that encased the girl up to her neck. Unable to leap away in time, and unable to move, the Sanada eldest was only able to curse.   With a brief muttering of thanks to Henry Holiday for the inspiration, Randi began to bring the flat edge of her greatsword down on Nobuyuki's head. With the heavy shade the other was wearing, it took a few attempts, but eventually Nobuyuki was knocked unconscious from the battering and lolled dazedly in her prison. That was enough to declare Randi Carter the victor.
