Famed Tactician Takenaka Hanbei (a.k.a. 竹中 半兵衛)
Summary
An intelligent and tactically-gifted young woman who acted, alongside Kuroda Kanbei, as one of Hashiba Hideyoshi’s lead strategists. Soon after the latter's defeat in battle, she took the chance to join with the Hashinara Yoshitakatomo Clan as a gesture of goodwill from the Oda, as well as to take personal revenge on Hideyoshi. Though sickly, small and frail, she makes up for these qualities with a powerful magic aptitude and one of the sharpest strategic minds in the country. Her reputation is well-earned, but it can often make her a bit smug, and she has trouble taking any sort of criticism. Hanbei is confident and well-mannered, with an aura that projects control despite her small size. She has made friends quickly, particularly with Ryūzaki Sanosuke, and spends much of her free time writing a memoir about her own exploits.Unique Abilities
Senjutsu - Inabayama Siegebreaker: Takenaka Hanbei's prowess in defensive battles was well known by Hashiba Hideyoshi, whom she repelled several times during his siege of Inabayama Castle. Through careful use of cover and staggering of defensive structures, both the survivability and offensive power of her troops is increased. Allies affected by this tactic gain a +10 All Action Bonus to opposed actions (including Attack) taken during a turn which the character began with any kind of cover between themselves and the intended opponent. In addition, all attacks undertaken in this way gain the Precision qualityMental characteristics
Personal history
Takenaka Hanbei was present at both Ashikaga Shogunate inheritance ceremonies in Echizen Province, for Ashikaga Yoshikage and Ashikaga Yoshiaki. When chaos erupted in the former, with the death of Yoshikage at the hands of Oda Nobunaga, Hanbei magically teleported herself and Tokugawa Ieyasu clear of the fighting.
After the second ceremony, Hanbei shook hands with Hashinara Katamoto, who was acting in his invented persona of Katsusada Shishauezaemon, as a gesture of “goodwill”. Katamoto cast a spell to drain some of Hanbei’s intelligence, but not enough to have any noticeable effect. Ignoring this, she took the opportunity to perform a magical scan of the other, learning all the details of Katamoto’s somewhat unique being.
As the Hashinara contingent prepared to leave, Katamoto surrounded Hanbei with zombies risen from the ranks of the dead Oda attackers, and considered having them assault her. When she failed to show any sign of fear or intimidation, however, he instead chose to simply allow them to fall dead at her feet before exiting.
