Suwa Sumemi

Priestess of Ame-no-Uzume at Kamigamo-jinja

Eccentric Priestess Suwa Sumemi (a.k.a. 諏訪 素芽美)

Summary:

A priestess of Ame-no-Uzume who spends most of her time fishing off the back deck of Kamigamo-jinja in Kaya. With the city being as hedonistic as it is, her shrine rarely attracts many visitors, and even fewer who are actually seeking Ame-no-Uzume's blessing. Still, there are few places better suited to a goddess of art and emotion, and it's thought that Uzume smiles upon Kamigamo and its caretakers.   There should be two other priestesses at the shrine, but Aoyama Kikuko and Aoyama Kikuyo instead focus their efforts on enforcing for the merchant queen of Kaya. They leave all of the actual shrine tending to Sumemi, which suits her just fine.   Marked by her bizarre sense of style and lackadaisical attitude, it isn't easy to rattle Sumemi. She is weak, however, to completely unexpected surprises, like a head general of the Hashinara Clan suddenly appearing at her shrine and teleporting her halfway across the country for a minor dispute. These kinds of things can unsettle her stomach. For the most part, however, she floats through life much like the lazy river behind Kamigamo-jinja. Her favorite hobbies, such as they are, include angling fish from said river and throwing them back after memorizing their scale patterns. These she replicates on paper and sells to traders from Wakayama in exchange for increasingly bizarre articles of clothing.
