House Myst
Leader: Chem Myst
Great House: House Dinn
Province: Flaven
Economy: House Myst profits from secrets, alchemy, and strange substances. Nestled in the mist covered bogs of eastern Flaven, their holdings include peat pits, Fog-fruit groves, and a remarkable alchemy lab from which they distil their concoctions. They export bottled vapors and herbal concoctions under poetic names like "Moon’s Whisper" or "Dreamcatcher’s Draught", mostly to nervous Nobles or artists in need of "vision." Many suspect they supplement their coffers with less sanctioned trades as rumor has it House Myst is willing to "lose" cargo in the marsh for a price.
Military: House Myst maintains a relatively small and elusive guard. These cloaked defenders blend with the mists, appearing where least expected. They rarely march in rank or field heavy weapons, preferring poisoned darts, illusion magic, and the element of surprise. While weak in open war, they are exceptional in guerrilla skirmishes and ambushes, particularly in Flaven’s wetlands. House Myst prefers to keep enemies off balance rather than beaten outright.
Culture: House Myst is secretive, poetic, and prone to flowery vagueness. They speak in riddles, toast with cryptic sayings, and host veiled masquerades where no one admits their true name. They claim reputation is everything, but in the inverse way. The less known about you, the more powerful you are perceived to be. IN reality, this is largely due to a condition known as "Mist-Mind", a sickness caused by working to often with Fog-fruit. Their nobles wear soft grays, muted greens, and silvers, and many are trained in minor illusion magic to add an air of ghostly unreality to their every gesture. High-speak is drawn out and filled with double meanings, often exhausting less patient houses.
History: House Myst began as a minor apothecary family known for treating fevers and bog lung. As their influence grew, so did their taste for the theatrical. A mysterious fire destroyed their original holdings, and rather than rebuild, they vanished for a decade, returning cloaked and transformed before rebranding as House Myst by proving noble heritage with the Record Of Lineages, despite push back from House Fey-Rae. Their new persona suited them. They quietly allied with House Dinn, offering subtle support in border skirmishes and murky intelligence against House Gha'ard infiltrators.
