House Fey-Rae
House Fey-Rae
Leader: TBD (Need pun pls)
Province: Flaven
Cadet Houses: House Byoff
Economy: House Fey-Rae derives its wealth from controlling the ferry system throughout the province of Flaven , acting on behalf of House Dinn. Every sanctioned crossing, barge passage, and canal transport is ultimately under their purview. Tolls collected from both Noble and Commoner alike fill their coffers, while back-channel routes are allowed to persist so long as the right tribute is paid.
Their priests are also healers, midwives, and morticians. While these services are offered freely in accordance with Rae-Diant’s tenets, nobles and merchant houses often make substantial “donations” to gain priority access. House Fey-Rae also manages several herbal gardens and luminous groves whose flowers are prized for their restorative properties.
Military: Though not a militant house by tradition, House Fey-Rae commands ferry wardens. Well-armed boatmasters, usually clerics dedicated to either Rae-Diant or Bedlam, who protect key waterways and sanctified crossings. These guards are trained in polearms, net-combat, and radiant cantrip bursts blessed by the houses clergy.
In times of trouble, the house can also call upon divine magic to blind, pacify, or disorient enemies, making them a valuable defensive force in the tangled canal towns of Flaven.
History: House Fey-Rae was founded when eladrin emissaries and clerics of Bedlam from the League of Iamel-Zed were given land within the Oligarchy in exchange for peace and trade routes. Rather than returning to the League when their contract ended, they chose to remain, eventually assimilating into the Oligarchy’s noble system.
Over generations, they aligned themselves not with the chaos of their distant homeland, but with Rae-Diant, the goddess of light, peace, and gentle order. In her name, they rooted themselves in the mists and waters of Flaven, claiming dominion over all crossings as both literal and spiritual.
House Dinn , needing a competent overseer of Flaven’s unreliable ferries and roads, granted House Fey-Rae sweeping control of inland transport in exchange for loyalty and a cut of the tolls.
Culture: The house is built around ritual, stillness, and patience. Its members speak slowly and deliberately, choosing words as though each one matters more than a sword. Even its martial orders are trained in poise and restraint and excess is outawrdly frowned upon. Though, behind close doors things tend to be more... flexible
While dedicated to a goddess of peace and life, House Fey-Rae views Serfs not with warmth but with detachment. They are to be tended, not elevated. Protected, not empowered. A broken ferry hand will not be healed, but replaced if they cease to be of use.
