Goldbrook
Great House: House Wheelnameitlater
Ruling House: House Tech-Tock
Other Houses:
House Bottlin: Once House Gildengrain, now fierce rivals of House Still. They brew bold experimental drinks, often laced with minor magical or alchemical effects.
House Grudge: Though primarily based elsewhere, this dwarf-influenced house has a minor presence in the area, dealing in runes and durable stonecraft.
Notable Features:
Tockvale: A town run entirely by clockwork mechanisms, created and maintained by House Tech-Tock. Every door, bridge, and bell runs to a precise schedule.
The Giant of Goldbrook: A towering mountain believed to be the slumbering body of a legendary druid who became one with the land. Locals refuse to mine there for fear of waking him.
The Clockbrook: A river channel partially lined with experimental water wheels and time-powered locks. Rumor says the current flows slightly faster in Goldbrook than elsewhere.
Culture: Goldbrook is a place of strange rhythms and regimented wonder. The locals wake to chiming gears and rest to lullaby-like mechanical ticks. Time, innovation, and chaotic efficiency rule here, but beneath the surface lies a deep reverence for natural forces, particularly the myth of the slumbering giant. Gnomes dominate much of Goldbrook, with dwarves and humans making up the remainder. Worship is most often directed to Witnear, Denarius , and Rockin Stone.
History: Goldbrook rose from an ordinary mountain town to one of the Oligarchy's technological marvels thanks to the discovery of rich mineral veins and the mechanical genius of early gnome settlers. House Wheelnameitlater formalized their influnence of the land by installing House Tech-Tock to develop infrastructure. The legend of the Giant of Goldbrook began during a particularly brutal mining collapse, after which survivors claimed the mountain itself had saved them. Since then, the giant has become a quiet symbol of restraint and balance.
Economy: Goldbrook thrives on invention and adaptation. Exports include alcohol from House Bottlin, clockwork wonders from Tockvale, and precision-crafted rune tools and mechanisms. The region has become a testing ground for magical-industrial fusion, supported by a trade loop that includes several Houses interested in practical magical items. Though not a Jaspine center, it does boast small mines producing copper, silver, and occasionally rare magical minerals.
