Shaby’s Wand

A wand which occassionally stops charging for a week.

History

Shaby was a goblin spell caster who became enamoured with wands when he acquired one during a raid on a gnome caravan. Shaby tried many times to recreate that wand and very nearly destroyed his tribe with the cost of experiments and damage from exploding wands. Eventually Shaby was kicked out of his tribe but he didn’t let this dampen his passion for wands.   Shaby tried contacting numerous different powers throughout the Savage Lands in the hopes one of them would give him the knowledge he was after. Most just ignored him, but a few used his desperation to torment him, setting him impossible challenges which he promptly failed. Stories of what Shaby was put through spread across the savage lands, with his name becoming slang for being tormented.   Shaby was finally able to create a wand after he made a deal with a fiend. Unsurprisingly the deal wasn’t in Shaby’s favour, though the fiend came to regret the deal as it was constantly mocked by it’s peers for wasting time on an easy mark like Shaby.   The wand has mostly remained in goblin hands since its creation as its slow recharge and chance of a misfire make it unattractive to those with any significant degree of power. Most recently it was acquired by Joint Strike Team 3 from the Magrannor Halls.

Shaby's Wand

Wand

Uncommon

This wand has 5 charges. While holding it, you can use an action to expend 1 or more of its charges to cast the magic missile spell from it. For 1 charge, you cast the 1st-level version of the spell. You can increase the spell slot level by one for each additional charge you expend. When more than 1 charge is used there is a 10% chance per charge used that the wand backfires and targets the wielder.   The wand regains 1 charge at midnight. If the last charge is used then the wand doesn’t regain any charges for a week.
