Laicosto
Capital of the forest kingdom on Laiqua.
Defences
Despite the use of stone to construct buildings, the rulers of Laicosto have never been able to bring themselves to build something so Fleeting as a wall around the town. Instead the forest is laced with traps to lead intruders astray, spells to put the unwary to sleep, and alarms to alert the defenders to the location of the attackers.
The town is also the centre for the mystical barrier that has protected the forest from periods of the years of darkness.
Tourism
As Miluril Starbrow's birthplace and the centre of worship for the Church of the Starbrow Laicosto is a popular destination for pilgrims, though tensions with the Kingdom of Caresnas make travel from other places in Kaara difficult. Therefore most visitors are from the surrounding villages.
Architecture
Unlike most elven settlements the main structures in Laicosto are not grown from trees. This is because the trees on Laiqua are not of a size suitable for such use. Structures have instead been buiilt from stone and a variation of the solidifying rock first developed by the Imberdins.
Despite the change in building materials the usual principles of interfering with the forest as little as possible were followed. Care was taken when transporting rock so avoid damaging the trees, and roots were carefully moved when they would interfere with the foundations of a building. With only a couple of exceptions, buildings do not go above two stories and carefully chosen plants and vines grow around the buildings or hang down from the roofs.
Careful maintenance of the plants and structures has helped to preserve the stone, and while some decroative carvings have had to be replaced a few times, the structures themselves have endured for millennia.
