Clan Anvilbright

A group of dwarves who broke away from Clan Magrannor in the middle of the fourth age

Structure

LIke other clans the Anvilbrights consisted of several families. Unusually the families were not as closely related as other clans. Despite this the clan operated in the same semi-collabrative way as other clans, with the leaders of each family advising and assisting the head of the clan's primary family.   Despite having no prior connection to the name Anvilbright, Mulldoon Anvilbright was the clan's first acknowledged leader, with the Steelfists and Jaad'Kart Family taking on senior positions.

History

After the treachery of the Stonesmiths was uncovered by the members of Joint Strike Team 3, forces loyal to The Magrannor, including Honourwatch and the Fifth Square of the Palace Guard took what steps they could to counter the treasonous efforts to take over the Magrannor Halls. While they were unable to save Nulgin Magrannor they were able to rescue his son Mulldoon Magrannor.   The Stonesmiths tried to frame Mulldoon for his father's death and labelled the forces protecting Mulldoon as rebels. Mulldoon and his allies found themselves locked out of Khezdur as the Unstoppable Invasion began wihch forced them to fortify their position at Anvilbright Mine.   Despite having no support from the Magrannor Halls Mulldoon's forces, led by Bardil Steelfist, were able to drive back the Unstoppable Force, forcing the hobgoblins to focus their attacks on the Kingdom of Caresnas.   Even when the hobgoblins were no longer a theat there was no realistic way for Mulldoon and his upporters to get back into Khesdur, let alone ousting the Stonesmiths. The simplest solution seemed to be to set up a new settlement from where those loyal to the clan could rebuild.
Anvilbright Mine was too close to Khezdur, and wasn't entirely suitable as a longterm settlement so it was decided that the best option was to head for the western parts of the mountains. Before leaving the mine Mulldoon formally renourced the name Magrannor and took took Anvilbright as his new name, and the name of the Clan.
Efforts were made to smuggle out family from Khezdur, a task made more difficult by the Stonesmiths sealing off the Halls from the surface world
The journey through the mountains was fraught with perils as they were still infested with hobgoblins and the beasts that had been brought from the north. It became clear that building an entirely new settlement while fending off foes would be impractical at best so former mines and fortresses were sought out. One such site was deemed suitable and the clan began work on the new Anvilbright Halls.   Conflict with other nearby powers was inevitable, especially the Kingdom of Caresnas. However, the Anvilbright Accord was drawn up and agreed before too many lives were lost

Religion

Despite being denouced in forges across their former home of the Magrannor Halls, the Anvilbrights were still followers of the soulforger. Berrak Jaad'Kart, took on responsibility for religious observances in the clan, aided by other clerics who had been assigned to the units who had followed Bardil.

Trade & Transport

With a population made mostly of soldiers there weren't enough people capable of raising crops or making goods for trade. The Anvilbright Accord allowed the clan to use their soldiers as a means of income, which allowed necessary goods to. be purchased from the Kingdom of Caresnas. The forward looking Jaad'Kart Family also made arrangements for trade with the people of Ironhammer halls. While the Anvilbrights didn't have anything other than coin for trade with the Ironhammers, the Jaad'karts hit on the idea of acting as intermediaries between the Ironhammers and Caresnas. That way both sides could enjoy the benefits of trade without being seen to deal with a longtime foe.

Anvilbright
The Anvilbright family name had faded away a generation ago, but those of the Jaad'Kart Family could trace their ancestry to the Anvilbrights. A daughter of the family had been working to reopen Anvilbright Mine when the rebellion started and several other members of the Jaad'Kart Family fled there to avoid persecution by the Stonesmiths.
