Conri

The Celestial of wolves, Conri lives in a South Geranium forest with his loyal pack of wolves and mysterious wife. He is mentioned in many Geranium myths and appears in legends about the Celestial War.
Calm down. She was closest to Mother, she must need time to prepare before seeing us after so long.
— Conri defending his sister, Meeting of Six

History

Conri's exact origin is unknown. The only knowledge of his birth is that he is the oldest son of the Elemental Celestial of nature, Fadilah. Conri was raised by his mother, who quickly noticed his affinity for wolves. He eventually would have five siblings, the birth order of which is uncertain, but many stories as well as Conri's disposition toward them suggest he is the oldest. Conri eventually struck out on his own, journeying through the galaxy and making a name for himself on several planets, particularly Visor and Laval, before settling in a forest on Geranium.   Despite his independence from his mother, Conri spent as much time as possible with his family. He appears in several legends and is mentioned in even more. Every story paints him as easygoing and kind, always delighted to talk with people and discuss things, but never indifferent to injustice and suffering. He is seen not only as a kind and fatherly man but as a strong warrior unafraid to defend or attack if necessary.
When the Celestial War broke out, Conri and most of his siblings joined the war with his mother and the other Elementals against the Commander. Records from the war tell of how devastating Conri's support was. His control of wolves as well as his personal pack gave him an army all his own that tore thousands apart with vicious skill. Conri's fighting is not to be forgotten either, as the Celestial slew hundreds on his own, shifting from human to wolf with perfect ease. But even Conri's strength was not enough. When the war ended, his mother and the other Elementals were all dead. The Commander had been defeated but at the cost of some

of the oldest Celestials in existence, including not only the Elementals but half of the Emotionals and even Love herself, who banished the Commander as she died.     Following the Celestial War, Conri returned to Geranium. He lived there in peace for many years until a mysterious Eternal named Tala arrived seeking help. Conri helped her, falling in love as he did so, and when Tala was cursed further, he turned her into a wolf and made her a part of his pack. Tala and Conri were married after that and lived together in the forest.   Around 800 BPC, the princess Isla disappeared into the mountains. Conri recognized her magic and sought her out to assist her. With Conri's help, Isla was able to control her magic and return to her city to take the title of queen. Isla ruled South Geranium from the mountains and after realizing she had become a Celestial, kept in contact with Conri and met with him every so often, the two Celestials of South Geranium exchanging news and spending time as good friends.
"It's been a long time, Conri! We haven't seen you since our last meeting before the Commander's return. How have you been? I heard something about a Visoran asking you for a favor. How did that go?"   "I'm not in the mood, Everett."
— Conri and his brother
Over the years, Conri has remained in the forests of South Geranium. He leaves occasionally to check the state of the galaxy and to meet every few years with his siblings, with whom he still shares a strong bond, but prefers to stay alone with his wife and his pack. Stories about him still circle through the galaxy, including a strange story on Visor of how he has access to incredibly powerful magic that no other can perform. Because of his secrecy, however, this story remains circumspect and without proof.

Magic & Powers

Conri is considered one of the best fighters of the Celestials, but his magical prowess is relatively low. Most of his powers deal with speaking with and controlling wolves rather than other abilities. He is known to be able to transform people into wolves and gain control of them, but his influence does not extend to other canines or creatures. Conri's sense abilities are some of the highest among all the Celestials and allow him to instantly distinguish friend from foe among trespassers in his forest. A story from Visor claims that he has access to incredibly powerful magic, but it is more likely that he knows someone who has such power.

Appearance & Renderings

Conri has been described as a tall man in his late thirties or early forties with curly dark gray hair, tan skin, and bright golden eyes. He has a lean, muscular build, a sharp gaze, and a face that easily changes from cold to smiling. In human form in his forest, he usually wears simple peasant clothes. When visiting Isla or other Celestials, he dresses more formally, often in the style of local soldiers. When in wolf form, he is slightly larger than a normal wolf with streaked dark and light gray fur, golden eyes, and sharp claws.   As one of the most mysterious and reclusive Celestials, Conri has not been depicted in art for many years. Images of him usually date to the centuries around the Celestial War, such as one of him standing in front of an army of wolves or an older painting of Fadilah and all six of her children, including Conri. There are Southern Geranium drawings of him meeting with Isla in her palace or a few imaginings of him with his wife, but most of them have remained in South Geranium.

Author's Notes

I started this article before finishing my Overview of Magic but decided to finish and publish it anyway. Conri is important much later in the story, so I had to be careful with what I wrote.
