Ead Ardun

Qalda's Reclamation

It's just land, damn it! Put some people on it. It's free real estate! -Lord Levon Aronian, Brigadier General of His Majesty's Royal Army. Two years after Shared Dream.

Geography

Some have described the shape of the continent as that of a bird in flight--others as a tree or a giant mushroom.   When it originally appeared Ead Ardun was a barren and desolate wasteland. The southern plains, separated from the greater continent by the Kraken's Wall mountain range, is called Hurr. It contains the Western Hurr and Eastern Hurr plains, as well as the supposedly cursed forest known as the Blightwood.   At the center of the continent lies Qalda's Gift, a mountain as tall as Tervis Rock from which three mountain ranges spiral out across the land. These ranges are home to animals and monsters, coniferous forests, and a few nomadic tribes that call themselves the Aran-Qi.   Songsword is the major urban center of the continent, and lies on the Rising Coast. It is said that the settlement was founded by Jharrel Sunsworn himself, and that he used it as a base to plant the First Forest to the north.   Beyond that lies Tenderneck Lake, where Lake Post stands a vigil at the edge of the frontier.   To the north, the Northweeds form a nearly impenetrable marshland inland of the Easif Coast.

Fauna & Flora

The continent is home to plants brought (and some, according to legend, created) by Jharrel and his Sunsworn Circle. These include all manner of coniferous and deciduous trees, as well as fruit- and flower-bearing plants. Of particular interest are the starfruit, a major export, and Qalda's Grace, a rare flowering vine that can be used to synthesize a tincture that can cure almost any disease.   The apex predator of the Northweeds is the Banderhobb, a species of giant bipedal toads who will mark their target prey and doggedly pursue them for decades until one or the other is dead.

Natural Resources

Tenderneck lake teems with fish and rare algaes, while many prospectors have found veins of precious metals in the mountains and in the Poxhills.   The First Forest and the jungle around Songsword are home to a variety of tropical fruits and vegetables, including starfruit, bananas, and citrus trees. Several species of trees also produce resins and saps that are useful in the production of medicine, pitch, and tar.   The Kraken's Wall mountain range is one of the densest deposits of tin, zinc, and quartzite in the world, but frequent incursions from goblinoids in Hurr make it difficult to establish long term mining settlements.   The Northweed marshes support small mangrove forests and an abundance of freshwater bivalves make it a prime candidate for pearling, both for jewelry manufacture and spell components.
