Donnercliffs
The Donnercliffs are the cliffs surrounding the Jadirbay in the north-eastern part of the Chaukenlande, left over from a large hillside that got destroyed by a large thunder storm. To this day, the cliffs are regularily struck by lightning.
One day, the god Donar had to fight a worthy adversary, destroying the earth they walked on. In the end, all that remained was a crater filled with water, majestic cliffs keeping mortals away, and the waterlogged tomb of the being, eternally struck down by the god.Originally, a large hillside stood in place of what is now known as Jadirbay. But after a giant thunderstorm a few decades ago, the hillside was destroyed, leaving the Donnercliffs as their only remains. It is rumored, a big battle took place between Donar and an unknown entity, which resulted in the god's victory and the complete destruction of the hillside.
But he beat his opponent, so why does his lightning keep striking here?To this day, the cliffs will be hit by sudden and powerfull lightning strikes, no matter if there is a storm brewing or not. Notably the strikes keep exposing bright, smooth green glass inlaid of the cliffs, forming runes that have actual effects in Runemagic. Most likely, the god Donar is sending these lightnings, to send an important message to his followers.
Geography
In their current state, the Donnercliffs are roughly 15 meters above sea level and are one of the highest elevations in the norther Chaukenlande. They consist largely of boulder clay, ocassionaly containing more dense rocks.
There is no beach below the cliffs and the constant tidal forces from the northern sea continously undercut the cliffs, forming and exposing a few caverns at sea level. Due to the tidal forces as well as the consitent lightning strikes, parts of the cliff keep crashing down. At low tide, the bay is almost completely devoid of water, exposing the large rocks slowly sinking into the tideland. During high tide the area is almost impassable and very dangerous at high tide, due to the submerged rocks.
The top of the cliffs consists of a roughly one metre thick layer with a dark ocre coloring. The stone below is of a greyish-blue coloring.
