The Lodge of Ludhar

Totania has a desperate need for healers, as most people that learn Magic decide to use it for offensive, defensive, or even downright absurd purposes. This is where Ludhar's Legion comes in, as a group of roaming healers it is their duty to learn healing magic to help others.   Yet they cannot roam forever. They roam when sent on their missions, but more often than not they can be found in the Lodge of Ludhar, a home base of sorts for the Legion.

Purpose

The Lodge serves not just as a place for Ludhar's Legion to rest, though that is a major purpose it has. It also serves as a place where people can seek refuge. Those that enter are allowed to rest in one of the many chambers of the Legion.   Here, the Legion tends to their wounds and any needs they have. For children, they have entertainers. For teenagers, they have their recruits play games with them. The Lodge is outfitted with many sports areas for this purpose. For adults, there are varied ways the Legion has at the Lodge to keep them happy.   The major reason it was put in the Lawless City of Vitroveil is that this city does not have much joy in it. While criminals may enjoy the crimes the city offers, the others of the city are left to fend for themselves and turn to criminals, or else die. To prevent this, the Legion founded the Lodge of Ludhar to be a place of safety. Then, they could be the light of hope in a dark place like Vitroveil.

The Layout of the Lodge

The lodge is split into many different areas. The areas, and their purposes, are as follows:
  • The Great Hall- Both the entrance hall and the dining hall, the Great Hall serves as the major place of leisure

  • The Residence- Long hallways with beds laid out. There are four residence halls. The Men, the Women, those that wish not to be placed in either of those categories, and the Pleasures.
  • The Sports Complex- A field that can magically shift to suit any known sport. Due to their healing magic, the Legion especially loves to play the Dwarven bloodsport of Flingo Ball.
  • The Music Room- The Music Room is where bards and other entertainers go to practice and play music for those staying there. It is divided into two rooms, the practice room and the stage.
  • The Infirmary- For a group of healers, the infirmary needed to be massive. So, around the entire building in a ring shape is a long hallway which is used for all healing interactions in the Legion.

Ludhar's Legion by Jarhed
Ludhar's Legion

Ludhar's Legion is named after Ludhar the Lizardman, a famed Lizardfolk healer who is believed to have invented healing magic.   The Legion attempts to bring joy to all in the world. It is their primary directive, which also means they put the joy of others over their own. As the legends say Ludhar did, they do not take spouses, and sometimes are even known to castrate themselves to ensure they are devoted to healing. Those that do so are sometimes called the Devoted.   Some members of the Legion disagree with this, saying that castrating themselves removes one way they can bring joy to the people of the world. These members of the Legion are known by the others as the Pleasures.

Outside Forces

The Legion of course deals with many people that try to attack the Lodge. In Vitroveil, there is no law, so attacking them is not against the law. The Legion, in turn, subscribes to the same ideals. So to any that attempt to attack, they invert their knowledge of healing and instead reverse heal an opponent, sucking out their life force.   The Legion rationalizes this by saying that criminals steal joy, and that they should not be allowed to have the chance. They normally try to only harm them rather than kill them, but for particularly nasty or troublesome criminals, they do not hesitate to put the lives of the many people in the Lodge over the life of the singular criminal. A small chute is present in the Great Hall to place bodies in, which then sends them out to sea for a Lizardfolk Burial at Sea.

Decoration

Perhaps the most apparent decoration in the Lodge of Ludhar are the words carved into the walls. These are words of motivation, chiseled in to immortalize them. To become motivation to heal others, the Legion had to decide what would be the best to write.   So they are the last words of everyone who has died in the Lodge of Ludhar. People who came to late, or with too serious of an injury. The words are regrets, wishes, goodbyes. Things that pain the Legion to look at, so they can be better motivated not to let that happen again, and not to allow themselves to regret as these people did in their final moments.   Another decoration is the Monument of Health in the center of the Great Hall. This is a statue of a Human man named Gen Chirgaz who was afflicted with almost every known ailment at the time. He came to the Lodge, but did not survive too long after that due to everything he was suffering from.   It is a Monument of Health because, since then, healing magic research has progressed to a point where nearly every affliction Gen had been diagnosed with is treatable, and it is their duty to ensure that they will not fail to save another Gen again.
