Nerodil Throne Room

The Nerodil Throne Room is the seat of power where the King of Nerodil, often called the King of Humanity, resides. It is the central chamber of Castle Nerodil, the fortress home of the royal family of Nerodil

Layout

Entering the Nerodil Throne Room is done by walking through the large wooden doors of Castle Nerodil. They are heavy doors, meant to show the weight of the Human King, as he carries the weight of Humanity and their sins on his shoulders.   Entering, one will find that the walls are made of stone brick and the floors a marble pattern that has been said to dazzle the eyes. Pillars of stone brick jut out from around the path to the throne, reaching up to the high ceiling and holding the ceiling up.   One will immediately find themselves on a red carpet that leads from the entrance directly to the King's throne. It is made of a soft, silky material that is so soft that simply touching it, even with clothes or armor on, is said to tickle.

The Throne of the King

The end of the silken carpet is the marble steps, polished every day so that the King is not stepping on filth. There is a saying in the castle in relation to this,
"The steps to greatness are polished by lesser men. Those who wish for success will never bow their heads to such a request."
— Nerodil Proverb
This is carved into the bottom step of the throne so that the King can make sure those that bow or kneel to him can always see it, but that it will always be out of his line of sight. For in the Nerodil Throne Room, the King bows to no one.   The Throne itself is atop these stairs. Ten steps to reach it, but it is worth it, with silk as soft if not softer than the carpet, wrapped around cushions filled with the finest cotton and wool. However that is only the seat and the backing. The throne itself is also lined in a golden ornamentation that makes it shine in the otherwise grey and red throne room.

Sitting on the throne, looking down from on high, the King is said to be equal to the Gods themselves. Yet this is ignoring a critical design choice made when Gellark Lionrage had it built.   The Throne is tall, but the Court Wizard Tower is taller. This is because Gellark was crowned King, but after the events of A Dreamless Sleep, he considered himself unworthy. He considered the first Court Wizard, Varth Dreamless, much more worthy and honorable than himself.   In recent times, however, people do not like giving credit to the Court Wizard, for that would disparage the reputation of the King. So the Court Wizard is seen as lesser because the Court Wizard does all of the work for the King.

Regalcrest

The Regalcrest family are the Royal family of Nerodil, who have held the throne since Gellark Lionrage's disappearance. Medrir Regalcrest, the first of the Regalcrest family, claimed himself to be cousin of Gellark Lionrage, and staked his claim to the throne on that Gellark had built.   Ever since, the Regalcrests have been seen as having Royal Blood, blood that was once held by the noblest of warriors who founded the Kingdom of Humanity. Due to this, they have the birthright to rule over all others.   Some historians question the validity of Medrir's claim to the Nerodil throne, saying that there is no evidence that the Regalcrests ever had any relation to the Lionrages. All spokespeople for the Nerodil crown refuse to comment on these allegations.   The current Regalcrest family consists of Ku Regalcrest, the King of Humanity, and his young son Ug Regalcrest. Ku is considered a heinous, uncaring ruler, and his son Ug is incredibly disrespectful.

Connecting Rooms

The Throne Room connects to multiple places. The first is, of course, the door that leads outside to the steps that go down to the streets of Nerodil.

The second is the Treasury, where the wealth of the Royal family is kept. This is on the lefthand side when one enters the Throne Room. This does not just include gold (though there is plenty of gold, more than most people in the world could ever dream of). Instead, it also includes jewels, armor and weapons the Royal family deemed worth keeping, and items of interest. Many Enchanted Items lie within the Treasury.   Next is the Sauna on the righthand side of the Throne Room. This is where the King and his high ranking workers (Court Wizard, Treasurer, Captain of the Guard) can go to relax when they are not on duty. It is off-limits to anyone not invited by the King, though some servants do sneak in on occasion at night when no one is awake. For this, some Captains of the Guard station their men there at night, but unbeknownst to the Captain, the guards will also go in, and sometimes this will lead to relationships between soldiers and servingwomen/men.   It is believed there is an underground entrance that leads from the Nerodil Barracks to the Throne Room, but its entrance is sealed and hidden from view of anyone.   At the back of the Throne Room are a few places. On the back wall, left from the entrance, is a staircase leading down beneath the castle. No one knows what it leads to exactly, as no one is allowed down there, and anyone even found to be spreading a rumor is executed.
If one instead walks past the staircase, they will find a planning room where the Captain of the Guard, Court Wizard, King (and sometimes Treasurer) meet to plan wars and diplomacy. Schematics and maps are often strewn about on tables with lengthy documents that no one dares touch for fear of what would happen, as well as fear of looking dumb for not understanding the long words written on them.   On the backhand wall on the opposite side (right from the entrance) is a staircase leading up to the other rooms in the castle, such as the Royal Bedrooms and rooms for the Treasurer and servants.
