Court Wizard Tower

The home of the Court Wizard of Humanity, the Court Wizard tower is a giant tower filled with books. It has two floors, connected by a large ladder that is also used to grab high-up books.

Structure

The main room is a giant library. It is filled with bookshelves all over the walls, stacked high up to the very top of the tower. Each shelf is filled with different books. On the floor, some desks and chairs sit for study.   The entrance at the front is only accessible when the Court Wizard wants it to be, as another bookshelf can be folded down to cover the doorway if the Court Wizard wants privacy.   To get to the higher up bookshelves is a giant ladder that can be rolled to any side of the tower. It is said to take fifteen minutes to climb the entire ladder, that is how large it is.   When one gets to the layer of the tower they want, there is not always a floor there to stand on. Some people just reach for the books on the ladder.

For people who are not psychopaths, a retractable floor can be pulled out and stood on to grab the books. There are five retractable floors to reach books.   One bookshelf on ground level, at the back, is also retractable like the front door. This leads to an underground tunnel system that connects Nerodil and other Human cities together. The exact purpose of this is unknown, as are its origins.   Then, at the top of the ladder, is the top platform. A bedroom and private area for the Court Wizard, it is also called the Observation Deck. Windows line the walls, often open to allow the breeze in. From here, the Court Wizard can look out and see all of Nerodil. They even have an upclose view of the castle, and a sprawling view of the noble Mansions. It has the perfect view of Nerodil.

History

The Court Wizard Tower was built by contractors hired by Gellark Lionrage, the first King of Humanity. It was dedicated to the man he called the first Court Wizard, Varth Dreamless. He built it so it was tall enough to overlook Nerodil, the city Varth had saved with his sacrifice. Then, in a way, Varth's spirit would be able to see the whole scope of the city he saved.   After the disappearance of Gellark following his coronation during the events of A Dreamless Sleep, the Court Wizard title deteriorated. Due to this, the Court Wizard Tower was seen less as a thing of beauty and majesty, but moreso as an eyesore that was taking up space.   Many petitions were made asking for the tower to be torn down, but the royal Regalcrest family always declined. There was one Regalcrest who considered it when they were a Prince set to take the throne, but they were assassinated before doing so and their sibling took it instead.

Some Court Wizards were very secretive, not allowing guests to enter the Tower. Others have thrown parties in the Tower, letting anyone in to see it and peruse its knowledge. This may be why some important books are not in the Tower.   It is believed the Nerodil LIbrary is to thank for stealing these books, as their collection is in some ways not nearly as impressive as the Court Wizard Tower, and in other ways it is much more impressive with some of its books.   Kings very rarely enter the Court Wizard Tower. There is a tradition, that Kings should stay far away from the Court Wizard Tower, as it is a low place not befitting them. Court Wizards always go to the King, entering the castle. For a King to set foot in the Court Wizard Tower would be them stepping into the role of one who is all but a commoner, and that goes against the ceremony traditional for the King of Nerodil.
Timar Forestarm by Jarhed

Timar Forestarm

The current Court Wizard, Timar Forestarm is a noble warrior who does not fight. His philosophy is that nature and fate is a cycle. To move opposed to that cycle, to try and oppose fate as it stands, is not possible. It can only get someone so far until fate eventually catches up with them.   Yet that is only with the current cycle that Timar has observed. He has stood by, watching this cycle, and understands exactly how it works. What his exact plans are with it now... no one knows. Even his wife, Roliza Forestarm, has been known to say that Timar is distant.
"He is loving, but there's something more behind his eyes that he's afraid to say."
— Roliza Forestarm
Forestarm was a student at the Magic College in the Class of 520, and graduated as salutatorian behind Ikkul Ravofarn. It is said that he had predicted his loss before the tournament began, but was goaded on by Kicad Bavul to try and win. Timar argued it wasn't what fate wanted, but he would try anyway.   Despite his best efforts, even pushing through some intense battles with Otikul Nurdesh and Ilifaren, Timar struggled against Ikkul, and eventually lost. He spoke to Kicad afterwards, saying that was always what would happen in this tournament. By virtue of the tournament bracket as it was made, fate willed his loss. That was what the wheel was as well.   Timar went on to marry his grammar school sweetheart, Roliza Nickelpike. She did not go to grammar school, the schools he went to were for men and nobles only. Yet every day on his walk there, he'd see her out in the fields, and would stop to talk with her. He considered their meeting fate, and after having the whims of fate confirmed to him at the Magic College, he proposed the instant he returned to Nerodil. Together they had a child named Arving Forestarm.
It is due to this that a small prank is played on foreign visitors on diplomatic missions. Elven Kings have visited Nerodil before, and are often asked to meet the Court Wizard in his tower. When these foreign Kings set foot in the Court Wizard Tower, the general Human populace will then think less of them, as they let themselves enter this Tower.
