Lightsinger Theater

The premiere opera house in Waterdeep, the Lightsinger Theater is renowned the world over for its lavish productions and exception sound design.  Although typically quite expensive, the Theater has a weekly matinee where all tickets are given out for a nominal fee as a service to the city.

Architecture

The Lightsinger Theater has the look of a Roman amphitheater, but with a domed roof made of dark polished wood.  The upper levels of the theater house large retractable wooden panels on the doors, which allows the theater to be opened and which are designed to pipe sound from the stage into the surrounding city during festivals and other celebrations.

History

The Lightsinger was designed by famed Waterdavian architect Frannie Woad Light, who wished to provide a space for the arts in the heart of Waterdeep.  Construction began under Open Lord Gygax, but was not completed until the reign of Open Lord Greenwood.  It was Greenwood who created the Waterdeep Endowment for the Arts, which underwrites a weekly matinee intended to be accessible to any citizen of the city.  
The Lightsinger's unique sound design has lent it to being a popular venue for Open Lords to announce policies and make proclamations, as well as command the city in times of crisis.  By speaking from the center of the stage, the Open Lord's voice can be heard for several blocks when all of the wooden partitions are opened.
