Ley-Line Implosion

When the Betrayer was thrown from the Celestial Plane and crashed into the middle of the continent, it brought great destruction with it. The physical damage combined with the overloading of the ley-line he landed on caused the earth to buckle and crack and led to the formation of the Stormy Divide. However, it wasn't the only instance of such destruction. Though mostly finished now and unheard of in the Age of Mortals, the overwhelming magical energy of the Sunderings did sometimes build up and lead to ley-line implosions, causing varying amounts of damage. Most of these were around the Divide and are believed to be the source of many of the islands within it. It is also what caused the Mosaic Valley to be formed as it was, the implosion creating deep fissures in the ground and scorching the land of the life that was there originally.

Manifestation

According to recordings and vocal histories, there would be somewhat of a warning before a ley-line implosion in the form of the smell of ozone, gravity acting strange and any magical items or people having their magic behave strangely and randomly, not unlike the effects of Phantasia Delirium but much more uncontrollable. The actual implosion was usually hard to miss, with fires of all colours erupting in a single moment, the light being able to be seen from miles away and the tremors of the earth felt for even further.

Localization

The only natural places apparently unaffected by the implosions were the Scattered Isles; whether due to distance, or the oceans inhibiting the travel of energy through the ley-lines, is unknown. Kandar appears to have not suffered any great ley-line implosions, potentially due to the soaking of the land in magic to the extent that the ley-lines simply adapted to the new charge, and the Polar Coast apparently also absorbed the extra power without problem due to the already fickle nature of wild and fae magic as it is.
